SEPTEMBER 1, 1976

THE DARK NIGHT SKY HARMONIZED beautifully with the brown bricks of the castle. The moon being the only source of light besides the small lanterns on the earthy ground. Taking in her surrounding, looking up at the castle which was more of a home to her than Grimmauld Place, Ara felt some kind of relief.

The trio made their way to a carriage, when Ara saw some mysterious creature, making her gasp.

I can see them.

The pupil-less white eyes stared right into Ara's storm grey eyes as though it could see her soul. She took in the magnificent sight of the beast in front of her, sure she has seen them before in the books she has read in the library, as they had yet to learn about thestrals in the upcoming term. Vast, black leathery wings spread from the fleshless creature, making every bone visible. The gathering gloom was making it look even more eerie and sinister.

"Ara ? Are you okay ?"

A hand touching her shoulder made Ara flinch slightly, turning around she was met with worried looks from her two friends.

"Yeah. Yeah..just thought there was something, sorry."

She replied with a small forced smile and stepped into the carriage which would bring them up to the castle.

For a second she thought she was going mad as her friends couldn't see them, before she remembered these scary creatures where only visible to people who have seen death.

Lost in her thoughts, Ara didn't notice the carriage arrived at the entrance. Frank once again had to call out her name for her to snap out of her thoughts and get up from her seat.

Being met with worried faces again she had to reassure them she was fine.

"Don't bloody look at me like I've lost my mind."

"Well for that you would need to have a brain in the first place."

Alice fit into giggles as Frank earned a hit to the shoulder from Ara.

"Ouch, no need to bloody hit me that hard."

"It's what you what you deserve", Ara replied while sticking out her tongue as Alice agreed with her.

The feast was something every student at Hogwarts was looking forward to, when a new school year started. A variety of different types of food from all over the world, being able to eat as much as they want and having more time for catching up with their friends and classmates before they had to go to sleep, was a good way to start.

The big doors were pushed open and Professor McGonagall came into the great hall. The loud chatter immediately quieted down.

A smile grazed Ara's face as she saw the childrens' eyes widen and the quiet gasps as they whispered "Look at the ceiling" and "Wow, the candles are floating" to their friends.

Maybe someone finds a new home here too.

Professor McGonagall calling out the first name, asking them to step forward and take a seat to be placed into their house by the sorting hat, didn't stop Frank and Alice from throwing weird faces at each other from across the hall.

Noticing the look the head of house Hufflepuff, Professor Sprout gave Frank, Ara hit his shoulder once again earning a small "Ouch, would you stop hitting me ?".

"Would you stop making these faces. Show some respect."

"Should I ask McGonagall if you can be sorted again, because Slytherin would definitely suit you better."

"Bloody hell. Someone please remind me why I am befriended with you."

"Admit it already, you love me."

With another "hush" she looked over to the Gryffindor table, just to find Alice giggling to herself and trying not to burst into laughter. Ara rolled her eyes at Frank and turned her attention to the sorting.

After a long conversation over the following day and what classes they were most excited for, the food and now dirty plates where washed away and the headmaster, Professor Dumbledore stood up to make a speech.

"The very best evenings to everyone !... To our new students, welcome, to our old students, welcome back ! A year full of magical education awaits you..."

Ara suddenly felt as if someone was watching her, quickly whipping her head around to the table of the lions, her eyes found a pair of hazel ones looking back at her.

A shiver went down her spine as something build up in her chest, something she couldn't describe.

A body blocking her view made her snap out of this trance. The loud chatter she blurred out before got her to realize the feast was over.

As Ara got up to make her way to the Hufflepuff common room she couldn't help but long for more. She wanted to feel this again. To get lost in this heavenly pair of hazel eyes once more.
