Young Hamato Yoshi stands up on shaky legs, "Let's go again, I almost had you!" His maroon eyes shine as his best friend laughs and spins her staff.
"No way. I beat you 10 times already. Just admit it, you were beat by me. With a wooden staff that you said was useless against an opponent." Ruby says placing a hand on his head and ruffling his hair causing him to playfully slap it away.
"Ok I accept defeat." Yoshi said walking over to the back porch of the clan dojo. Ruby sets the staff to rest against a railing and sits next to him.
"Can't believe I was beat by a girl with a stick." He mutters playfully glancing at her with his maroon eyes. She punches his arm and laughs with him.
"Where is Saki? He's super late, again..." Ruby mutters looking up at the sky. Yoshi shrugs with a smile also looking up at the darkening sky.
"Who knows..." He mutters worried for his brother.
"RUBY SWEETHEART IT'S TIME FOR US TO HEAD BACK TO THE CLAN HOUSE!" A male's voice calls from afar.
Ruby and Yoshi look to each other then back up at the sky with bright smiles. They knew that Ruby would return to play with him and Saki tomorrow, after all, their clans were close, their fathers were like brothers.
Although Yoshi would never admit it, he could never see Ruby as a sister or cousin, she'd always be his best friend who he wouldn't trade for the world.
He grabs her hand and pulls her to stand up in front of him. "Here I got you this, I know you're birthday isn't till another few months but I got you this hair stick. I remember you always wanting one like your cousin Tang Shen." He places a beautiful ruby red hair stick into her hand from his pocket.

Yoshi is interrupted by Ruby hugging him tight. "Thank you Yoyo." She says causing him to chuckle. They part and look at the setting sun with sparkling eyes.
"Hey Yoyo. Promise me something..." Ruby says looking at him with wide red eyes. Yoshi looks to her with a smile. "Promise that well be friends forever."
Yoshi nods with a bright smile and intertwines his pinkie with hers, "I promise!"
