"Here you go."

Jennie heard the voice. Her ears moved as she lifted her head to see the familiar hand placing a small plastic bowl inside the cage.

"And this. I'm sorry. It's the only one left in the fridge. I'll get you guys more tomorrow, okay?"

She looked up and saw a small piece of carrot being placed next to the bowl. It looked a bit thin and not very fresh but a carrot's a carrot. She hopped towards it and sniffed.

"Lili," she called the sleeping rabbit. "Dinner."

Lisa didn't move.

"Lili." Jennie hopped back towards the gray rabbit. "Wake up. Dinner." She pawed Lisa's head.

Lisa opened her eyes just in time to see the store darkening before the door closed. She lifted her head then brushed her face with her front paws. She then stretched, sitting up on her hind legs. Closing time meant stopping to pretend to be a cute and harmless ball of fur. She groomed her own ears lazily.

"Here."

Lisa looked up to see Jennie carrying the thin carrot towards her.

"That's a carrot? And there's only one?"

Jennie dropped the vegetable near Lisa's feet. "Yeah. He apologized and promised to give us more tomorrow."

Lisa looked at the bowl filled with pellets. "Oh well." She went back down on all fours. "Go ahead, by the way." She pushed the carrot forward with her nose.

"You eat first." Jennie also went down on all fours.

"Let's share."

"How?"

"Um..." Lisa sat back up, scratching her head. She thought about cutting it in two with her teeth but that would require chewing through the orange stick and she didn't want to eat more than her share. "Ah! I know!" She finally said. "I'll start at this end and you can start at that end."

"Huh?" Jennie lifted her head, looking at Lisa who was now lying down, sniffing the carrot. She saw her take a bite.

"Eat, Nini," said Lisa through a busily chewing mouth.

Jennie hesitated before taking a bite from her end of the carrot.

They ate quietly and quickly since there wasn't much of the vegetable anyway.

Jennie tried to not look ahead while she ate, focusing on the carrot. She somehow felt shy knowing that Lisa was at the other end of the stick, chewing her way closer and closer. She could smell Lisa closing in so she slowed down.

Lisa suddenly stopped. She lifted her head. "Finish the rest, okay?" She then hopped away to the bowl and started eating the pellets.

Jennie went quiet. She saw how much Lisa had eaten and it was far from half. "Lili..."

"Hm?" The gray bunny answered amidst crunching chewing noises. She turned her head.

Jennie kicked the carrot towards Lisa. "You ate too little."

"I had enough. You can have the rest." Lisa dipped her head into the bowl to grab another mouthful.

"Come on. Fair share. Fifty-fifty."

"But-..."

"Or I won't eat the rest."

Lisa just stared at Jennie with her nose, mouth and whiskers still moving thanks to the chewing. She swallowed. "Fine. I'll take another bite." She turned her body around and approached the remaining carrot. She took another bite – a small one.
