Biana's POV

Darknesses

Pain

Torment

A fire spreading inside of me, but then immediately doused by a suffocating flood. Harsh wind blowing the water away, and leaving the space dry. The fire starts again, and is put out by the spread of water. The wind blows it dry.

This had been going on for so long, and time was unidentifiable, so it could have been minutes, hours, days, or even longer.

My head starts to throb from the endless cycle of pain. Some primal urge within me is telling me,

Wake up

Wake up

Wake up

And with great effort, I snap back to reality, and open my eyes or the first time in who knows how long. The first thing that I see is a pair of clear, periwinkle eyes. Dex. He gasps when he sees that I am awake.

"Biana!!!" Dex yells, excitedly. Multiple Footsteps start shuffling towards my cot, and even more people are moving in general. I can't see who though, because it hurts too much to move my head. So, I'm stuck seeing the white ceiling tiles.

I feel a hand take mine, and another pair of eyes, these being teal, making eye contact with me.

"Dad," I mumbled, noticing how dry it was. "Can I sit up?"

"I don't think that that is a good idea right now." Elwin hands me a vial of Youth.

"Why? I want to see everyone." I whimper, trying to make it more believable. I know it'll hurt to move, but I want to—need to— act strong. I honestly don't think that this many people would be here right now for just me.

"Fine," Alden says, with a sigh. He nods at someone to my right. I feel hands sliding under my back, and lifting me to an upright position. My eyes widened at the sight of everything.
Sophie was wrapped in a group hug consisting of: Keefe, Amy, and—surprisingly—Councilor Oralie. But why? My eyes drift to two other cots, where Edaline and Grady are laying side-by-side. They look peaceful, as if they are—

"They're gone," Dex whispers, having followed my gaze. I only now realize that tears are streaming down his face, much like everyone else in the room.

"But...," my voice is lost to my thoughts. Who did this? Was it my fault? The fire— I gasp as realization strikes me. I look closer at them, and see burn marks on their skin, and when I look at my arms, I have burns too.

Keefe's POV

Sophie is a pile of mush. Quite literally. She has been on the floor, in my arms for hours, yet she hasn't moved, except for the sobs. I rub her back, trying to comfort her. I can't imagine what she is going through, loosing both parents.

"Sophie, do you want to see Biana?" I ask, trying to ease her out of her misery.

Her beautiful brown eyes widen, and Sophie says, "Biana's awake?"

I nod. Sophie sniffles one last time, and wipes away her tears. I help her stand up. We walk over to where Biana is lying. Dex is next to her, and he has been for the past 15 minutes, intently filling Biana in.

"Sophie?" Biana questions. "Are you okay?" Sophie nods, pauses, then shakes her head.

"I don't think that I'll ever be okay, but I'm trying to be." She gives Biana a watery smile, which Biana returns.

I clear my throat, "I'm here too, y'know. The one bringing up the hotness level here." Dex fake pouts, while Biana and Sophie giggle. I rest my chin on Sophie's head. (Oh, how us tall people love to use other people as arm/head-rests) She ducks her head away.

"Stop that," Sophie complains. "You know I hate it."

"Actually, you have never voiced your disdain of my handsome face on your head." I say

"Well, yeah, I know I've never said that," she deadpans. "Duh." Yess!!! Sophie is happy again! Well, maybe not happy, but she's not devastated anymore. Well maybe she is, but she seems less sad.

I hug Sophie, and say, "Love ya," cheerfully. She blushes, Biana squeals. The usual. Hehehe.

"So what is the status of your guys' relationship?" Dex asks. Oh god. We are doing this now? Here? At this point in time? On this latitude line? On this longitude line? With all these people here? With Grady and Edaline— no, don't finish that thought, Keefe. Don't do it.

"Ahhhh, It's kinda complicated," Sophie answers. Her emotions are panicking and spiraling out of control. I grab her hand, and send her waves of calm.

"Complicated, how?" Biana questions with a smirk.

"Complicated in a kinda good way?" I answer. I'm starting to actually panic now, afraid of Biana's wrath, when her "ships" didn't turn out well.

"How though?"

"Why?"

"Why not?"

"Why though?"

Sophie's POV

This went on for another five-ish minutes, long enough for me to get agitated.

"Wh—"

"We're engaged." I cut Biana off. She stares at me, utterly flabbergasted. Her mouth gaps open.

"You- wait-what?" Her eyes flit between Keefe and I like watching a tennis match. I nod.

"Where's the ring?" She demands.

"I uhh, didn't get that far before your dad interrupted us." Keefe responded.

"Well, where is it?"

Keefe pulls a red-velvet-box out of his pocket. Inside is a golden ring, lined with garnets.
