(Vanessa's P.O.V.)
"4 down, 14 to go!" Mr. Evil said. "Now. The next person to have a dare is... Vanessa. You're up sweetie." My eyes go wide.
I had just stopped crying because Farbod was killed. I just watched him disappear and it took us all a minute to calm down.
Tears began to run down my face when I heard my name.
I stood up and wiped my face multiple times before the tears and tear stains were fully gone.
"Hello, darling," His cold voice gave me chills.
"Don't call me that," I muttered, making my friends gasp. I glared at the phone, but I stopped, remembering that he can't see me.
"Anyways, back to the dare. You, Vanessa, are going to go upstairs as well." I flinched and stepped back. I don't want to see the dead bodies of my friends.
As if reading my mind, Mr. Evil said:
"Don't worry about anything Vanessa, the bodies of your friends have been taken care of."
My eyes narrowed and I watched the phone.
I decided to make a move.
I bent down and my hand flew to the phone, trying to hang up.
The button disappeared once again, just before my finger pressed it.
I groaned in frustration and straightened from my crouched position.
Cold laughter came from the phone and another chill went down my spine. That laughter... I thought to myself.
"Can we just get on with this. What do you want me to do?" I asked, trying to mask the fear in my voice.
"Alright, Vanessa. If you're so eager to do this, then you can go outside to the balcony. Everything is set up out there and once you get there, you should understand. You may go. Oh and say goodbye while you're at it."
I took a step back and my head was swarmed with thoughts. This is it. Only 14 and I'm going to die. I thought.
I didn't even so much as look at my friends as I walked by. I couldn't. I can't.
I stalked slowly up the stairs and navigated my way around this new house. I've never been here before.
I finally found the balcony and I made my way outside.
I pulled my hoodie closer to my body and shivered against the cold air that blew in my face.
I looked around and squinted into the darkness.
A noose hung from the roof and a ladder was propped up against the side of the balcony, making it easier for me to reach the death rope.
I took a deep breath and shudder again, but not from the cold. I was horrified.
I shook my head and just decided to get things over with.
I swung my leg over the railing and step cautiously onto the highest rung on the ladder. It shook beneath me and I flailed my arms around for balance. I sighed and swung my other leg over. I held onto the railing for dear life with one hand and reached out for the rope with the other.
My hand connected with the object that would cause me death and I thought about my family and friends that I would never see again.
I stood on my tippy toes on the ladder and secured the thick rope around my neck.
It made me itchy.
I looked around into the darkness of the night and smiled at the sight of the beautiful moon and stars shining bright in the sky. Then I remembered the position I am in and the smile faded off my face immediately.
I was just about to take a few steps downwards on the ladder to start the process of dying when a shadow moving across the lawn cause me to look down. I never realized how high up I actually was. I got dizzy and looked back up at the sky, the stars partially calming me.
I took another glance back down only to see a man standing at the base of the ladder.
"Who are you?!" I shouted frantically, scared of what this mystery person would do to me. He didn't answer. As a matter of fact, he didn't even look at me and just ignored me completely.
"Who are you?!" I screamed louder this time. Still nothing. I watched with wide eyes as the man put his large and on the base of the ladder and shook it violently. My eyes were as wide as plates as I shook back and forth on this ladder 2 stories above the ground.
I couldn't hold on any longer and my feet slipped. A shriek escaped my mouth as the rope pulled at my neck, restricting my airways. I heard the ladder hit the ground with a loud thud that shook the ground. Although I couldn't feel it because I was dANGLING 15 FEET IN THE AIR.
My mind raced and I struggled to try and hold myself up on the rope. It didn't work and I ran out of breath.
My lungs begged for me to breathe, to inhale, to get any form of air into my lungs. But I just couldn't.
I was dying and I knew it.
I decided that this would be the end no matter what so I went limp. My vision blurred and my lungs were about to explode. I closed my eyes and my head lolled to the side as I died.
*Back inside*
(Narrator's P.O.V.)
When Vanessa's feet appeared at the top of the window, Emad was the first person to see her. He exclaimed in shock and leaped towards the window. More kids followed him soon after. They looked up with misty eyes as one of their closes friends hung blue-faced above them. They watched in horror as Vanessa's body dissolved into thin air with everything that had to do with her murder, including the ladder. No one saw the man. Horrified, the kids sat back down in their circle, tears streaming down their faces.
