technicolor sunrise

as we look up from our quiet little hill,
at the endless space of indigo and blue,
we wait for the sun with tired smiles,
to mark another day with its radiant debut.

the dewy grass stains our wrinkled clothes,
my fingers clumsily weave a daisy chain,
yawns escape us as we keep our eyes open,
let's hope getting up early wasn't all in vain.

i rub my eyes and lean back on my arms,
allowing the cool breeze to nip at my skin,
when, all of a sudden, you shake me with a yell,
and i snap my attention towards the sky again.

and what a magnificent sight it is to behold,
we watch eagerly as the clouds start rolling in,
the ink-colored palette ripples and fades,
until light fills where the darkness had been.

shades of cyan and tints of dusty rose,
vivid orange stealing our words with its hue,
what was once a canvas of dusk and shadow,
glows in technicolor as the sun rises anew.

the dawn of a new day
