I ran all the way to the docks without stopping. I found Spot sitting by the water. He looked up when he heard me. "What are ya doin here?" He asked. He acted like I was a random stranger who showed up on his turf.
"I'm here to say I'm sorry." I replied. Spot looked up at me. "Oscar said that if I wasn't wit him then he would hoit ya."
Spot smirked. "Good ta hear someone cares about me." He said. I smiled.
"I will always care about ya, Spot." I said. I kissed him on the cheek. "I want you to know about me." Spot nodded. "Well," I started, "I was born in 'Hattan. I don't know who my parents are, but I know they left me. Jack busted me out of the orphanage a year ago. I became a newsie. I hid myself so I wouldn't get caught. Then, I met ya, who changed my whole life. I thought I knew how ta be free, but I didn't until I met ya." When I finished, Spot smiled. It made me feel warm inside.
Spot began telling me about his story. I felt very sympathetic when he said his mother died. I was surprised when he ran away. I was happy he was found by such a nice newsie. The story ended with Spot having a tear in his eyes. I pulled him in close.
"It's okay ta cry, Spot," I said. After that, he started bawling. My shoulder was damp when he finally pulled away.
"I thought I lost ya Jules. That Oscar Delancy won't live ta see anotha day." Spot said. I laughed.
"Spot," I began. He turned to me. I looked into his icy blue eyes. They had so much love and compassion inside them. "I love Youse."
Spot smiled. "I love Youse too, beautiful." He said. Spot's lips met mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck while he grabbed my waist. When we kissed, I felt all those bad memories of my past fade away. All I had was Spot, and the butterflies swirling around in my stomach.
We pulled away after a while. "I should get back," I said, standing up. Spot smiled and nodded. I gave him one last peck on the cheek and walked away. Spot stood speechless behind me.
