"Emily?" Calum's voice comes through the door as I sit on the floor, back against the wall. He slowly and cautiously opens my door, spotting me against the wall. He looks down at me with soft eyes."Em, she didn't mean it. She was just trying to make a joke." He sits next to me, pulling me into his chest.
"I want to hear her say it." I deadpan, pulling away.
"She just left." He sighs. I roll my eyes and stand up, muttering under my breath.
"Typical."
"Do you want some lunch?" He asks as I reach the bathroom.
"I'm not hungry." I grumble, slamming the door and turning on the shower.
________
"Hey, we're going out to dinner with everyone." Calum knocks on the door, opening it and sticking his head in.
"How long until we leave, and where?" I ask. He responds with 45 minutes and some restaurant called 'BJ's'. I nod, hopping up and rummaging through my closet for something I'm comfortable wearing in public.
I decide on blue jeans and a light blue hoodie. I slip them on and then put a shit ton of makeup on, seeing as I'm breaking out extremely bad.
80 minutes later, we're at BJ's. We picked Marissa up on the way there, and everyone else is already seated.
"It's about time." Michael jokes as we sit down at the long table for 11.
"It's not my fault, these two take forever to get ready." Calum claps back teasingly with a smile on his face. I sat next to Calum, on his left side, Marissa on his right.
"Can I get you anything to drink?" A familiar voice fills my ears. My breath hitches as I look up to the blonde boy that haunts my dreams.
James.
I grab Calum's forearm under the table, his attention being drawn to me.
"Can we leave?" I whisper, panicked. His eyebrows furrow.
"What? No, we just got here."
I sigh and place my hood on my head attempting to hide my face. He goes down the table, getting drink orders. He reaches Calum, noticing me.
"Emily?" His voice asks. I feel like I might cry. I don't respond and just place my hand on my face, blocking his view of it.
My hands shake rapidly as the other one finds its way to Calum's, holding on for dear life. Calum clears his throat, rubbing my hand reassuringly with his thumb.
"She'll just have a water." He answers for me when he notices my impaired breathing.
"What's wrong? How do you know him?" Calum asks once James leaves to grab our drinks.
"N-Nothing I just... we were at the same orphanage." I breathe out, relieved he's gone.
"Did something happen between you two?"
"No. I'm fine. Everything's fine." I say, sitting silently until he comes back with drinks. He reaches forward to place the water on the table in front of me. His mouth hovers over my ear with hot breath flowing down my neck.
"Why so scared, baby?" He whispers, hot breath enveloping my senses. I take in a shaky breath as he pulls away, leaving the table.
"I'm-I'm just going to the bathroom." I abruptly push away from the table and stand up.
"Woah, you okay?" Calum asks, grabbing my hand as I try to speed walk away.
"No." I yank my hand away from him and run to the bathroom, tears threatening to fall. I walk into the empty bathroom, images of what he did to me playing through my head on an endless loop.
I stare at myself in the mirror, red eyes and chest heaving. My breath catches in my throat and attempts to escape through sharp gasps as the door opens.
Trigger Warning *sexual assault*
James smirks as he makes his way behind me, resting his hands on my hips. He places his lips on my neck, and I freeze, not knowing what to do.
I didn't know then, and not now.
"James." I say, my voice coming out weak instead of firm and confident. "Don't touch me."
"Don't you miss the old times? Don't you miss us?" His hands travel to the hem of my hoodie. His cold hands make contact with my skin, sending shivers down my spin.
"There never was an us." I sneer, trying to gain my confidence. I spin around, but he keeps me trapped between him and the sink. "There was you forcing me to do shit with you." I finally break down, tears pouring down my face as his hands travel to the button of my jeans.
"James, don't touch me!" I scream, grabbing his hands. He roughly grabs me and spins me around, slamming me against the wall.
"Make me." He growls in my ear as he starts to push down my jeans.
"Hey, get the fuck off her!" Crystals voice fills the room. James backs up, startled.
"Hey, lady, we were just having some fun." He gets in between us so that she can't grab me. She rolls her eyes in anger and opens the door, peaking her head out.
"Calum, get your ass in here."
Calum abruptly bursts through the door, his worried expression quickly turning angry once he sees James.
"What's going on here?" He asks.
"This dude was forcing himself on Emily." Crystal says, putting her phone up to her ear.
"What?" He seethes. "Who the fuck do you think you are?" He shouts grabbing him by the collar.
"Calum—" I gasp, stumbling over to Crystal.
"How long will it take?" She asks, I'm assuming on the phone with the cops. She wraps her arm around my waist as Calum slams him against the wall.
"Calum, chill out, the cops are on the way." The door opens and an old lady gasps and shrieks at the scene.
Calum releases him and tells him not to move. James puts his hands up in defeat as Calum turns around. He quickly walks towards me and engulfs me in a hug as I let out a quiet sob.
"Has he done this before?" He asks gently. I nod into his chest as the door opens and two cops walk in. He rubs my back soothingly as Crystal explains to the cops the situation.
"It's okay." He coos. "It'll be okay."
