Suddenly my heart started beating faster and my palms grew sweaty. What were the odds?

"Hello? Are you there?"

"Yes, I'm here."

"Do you want to know who it was? It might bring all the unpleasant memories back, Meera. Just think about it once."

Unpleasant memories? No, the memories I had with my friends were all pleasant. It was my parents that made it unpleasant for me. I had consciously already decided what I wanted and the words slipped from my mouth.

"Tell me."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Just tell me Simmi." I demanded.

"It was Alia."

My life as I knew it now started spiralling down. After all these years, what made her reach out?

"Do you want me to forward her number to you?" Simmi asked me gently.

"Please." Was all I said. It was all I was capable of saying at that moment.

A while later Simmi had forwarded the number to me and I stared at it for ten straight minutes. I didn't know what to do. Should I call? Or send her a message? How about an email? Would she even recognise me? All these questions and more started jumping around in my mind and I just couldn't focus.

"Mummy?" Yuv's voice shook me out of my dilemma. "Did you hear what I said?"

I stared at him for a second when I realised he was talking to me. "Sorry, what?"

"I was saying the movie was so good! You should've seen it with me, I just loved it."

I ruffled his hair as he animatedly described the movie to me and I smiled at his excitement.

"I'm hungry now."

I stood up with Yuv following behind me closely. "Let's make lunch then."

I made the lunch as Yuv talked about random stuff. I tried to focus on what he was saying but today I just couldn't. My mind kept wandering to what Simmi had told me. Alia called me. My Alia. After all these years! It was like a blast from the past. This was too good to be true!

I don't think Yuv noticed how distracted I was, but if he did he didn't show it. He smiled at me as we ate lunch and after I sent him for the afternoon nap, Pawan was home. I served him food and then he too went for a nap.

Once I was alone with my thoughts, I couldn't help myself. I pulled out my phone before I could overthink it and pressed the phone to my ear.

The call was picked up and I shivered anxiously.

"Alia speaking."

For a second I was too scared to speak. Was this my Alia?

"Is anyone there?" She asked again.

I cleared my throat. "Hello, Alia? It's me. Meera."

What do you think will happen next? Is this the same Alia from her past- her best friend- or is this someone else? Like a false alarm? Bring in your views but don't forget to VOTE!
