Tenten shot up coughing─vigorously gasping for air as a strong force collasped on her midsection.

She reluctantly pried her eyes open, reaching out her hand to pet her sister's  head.

Said strong force was just her younger sister throwing herself on top of Tenten.

She brushed fingers through Megumi's soft curls.

"Let me sleep please..." Tenten mumbled, "It's too early to play. I promise to play with you after kenjutsu practice."

"I still need to go out to work with Tenji in the fields first," she added

"What do you mean, onesan? Niisan left already, it's past noon," the little girl answered─her brows frumbling in a way Tenten might've found cute if she wasnt recoiling from shock right now.

"What?" Tenten screamed scooping the girl into her arms and sliding open her door. She stepped outside─only to squint as the midday sun burned her eyes.

Rushing into the kitchen she saw her mother hard at work.

"You're finally up," the women commented, "Tenji couldn't wake you at all this morning. For a minute I thought you were dead."

"He did?" Tenten blanched not remembering being shaken at all.

Tenten put Megumi down and attempted to make her way back to her room to get dressed and help her brother.

Her mother grabbed her arm pulling her into her usual seat at the table, placing Megumi into her lap.

"It's too late to go help him anyway. Stay here and help me prepare dinner,"

"Dinner? Dinner? Just how long was I asleep anyways?" Tenten panicked.

"It's around four now and you look as if you barely slept?" worry laced the older woman's voice once again. Tenten hated it when her mother worried, worry caused her fuss relentlessly.

A warm cup of tea was placed in front of Tenten. They rarely drank tea these days, Tenten drank it without complaint. It was no use arguing with her mother, and Tenten felt unbelievably weak and sluggish.

What had brought this on?

Was Tenten coming down with something?

She forcibly shoved those thoughts away.

Knowing that she was useless in the kitchen she worked on brushing Megumi's hair, keeping the girl busy, allowing her mother to work uninterrupted. Her mother had always made sure to cook supper early on "gathering nights" so that she needn't have to cook after we got home.
