"The first gods were born from human desires─both good and bad. Blessed with the power of chakra they oversaw the human world.

Over time they passed their duties over to their descendants who started to forget their original purpose. Weaker fods allied themselves under stronger ones and the 5 great villages were born. Countless wars were wages between. Soon humans influenced by the negative energies born from the god's quarrels and the world was a mess. That was until a single god--the strongest god brought about peace and made everyone realise their mistakes. Each village cooperated and agreed to watch over certain parts of the human world─overseen by the head god of their village.

This peace however couldn't last a certain faction of humans whose lives were taken by the previously mentioned wars sought revenge. Somehow they acquired chakra--the life blood of the gods and immortalized themselves seeking to end the era of the gods. They are called the akatsuki. They sought to kill the gods and rule themselves─starting woth the strongest god who was praised as a hero."

"Would that be such a bad thing? Let people rule themselves I mean?"

"Without the figureheads known as gods chakra would run amok. If even the gods wer swayed into starting a war, humans are ten times easier to persuade."

"Who persuaded them to begin with?"

"No one knows but every theorises that it was either the first god of calamity, Madara or the first god of war, Danzo and that they are still secretly alive, defying nature itself."

"And what happened to this strong god who was hailed as a hero for stopping the war? Did he stop the Akatsuki?"

"No, he didn't. Naruto's father died along with his mother and many of our parents. A new war had nearly started but Naruto managed to stop it."

"What about you? Why were you so unhappy about your cousin marrying him?"

"As the head god of the village he is sure to be targeted by many. His position puts her in danger."

"You really do care for her don't you?"

Neji looked away, likely too embarrassed to admit it aloud. She quickly caught his attention again with her next questions, "And the curse. How did that start?"

"I'm sure you know the origins. Hinata and Ino conspired to help me find my soulmate. All of our powers were lessened somewhat by some sealing technique of the Akatsuki. So while she was able to find out that whoever it was was human and lived in the rural towns outside the city she wasn't able to figure out who exactly it was. They devised a plan in that one girl who come to the land of the gods every two months or so but the Akatsuki had gotten wind of this plan. To make people lose their faith in the gods they swayed the spell so that the girls who'd come here would die instead and with my powers diminishing droughts were naturally created across the country. Everything got pinned on me."
