[ ❝ when they're all gone ❞ ]

"Come on Jacob, I don't want to be late again." Y/n stuck her lower lip out, watching her brother slip a gray hoodie over his questionably colored shirt. He looked in the full length mirror again, making her sigh as he retorted; "I'll be done in a few minutes, be patient."

Today was especially gloomy. Autumn always brought monsoons and rainfall when it began. The soft pitter-patter of the rain soothed Y/n as it hit the roof of their colorless house in a soft, melodic beat. It was rare to see the house dull as dewdrops dancing bitterly about the windows, casting a shadow on the sickly colored walls.

Y/n watched the raindrops run down the glass as she waited, Definitely not the ideal weather for baseball, maybe they'll cancel the game today.

"Okay, let's go." Jacob muttered.

This weather always took the energy out of Jacob. His eyes were droopy and his legs felt like Jell-O, but Y/n loved the rain. She loved to play in the puddles that streamed down the sidewalk because it made her feel youthful again.

Jacob grabbed an umbrella from the nearby basket and opened the door. The aroma of fresh rain traveling through Jacob's nose as he opened the umbrella.

Y/n smiled as she felt the cool breeze travel through her navy blue jacket and jeans. Her tank top and flannel (stolen from Jacob's closet) were long enough to be swaying in the wind. What a shame that this day will be wasted, she thought.

The pair walked to their school in comfortable silence. This always happened as they somehow contradicted each other, like water and fire. Jacob was soft-spoken and patient. Y/n was fierce and protective. Sometimes people thought that Y/n was older, and yet she was the opposite by three years.

Because of this, they rarely had things to talk about.

When they arrived to their destination, they weren't fazed by the size of the school. Jacob had been going there for three years, and Y/n tagged along most of the way. It wasn't until now that Y/n had another reason to be there.

"Wow, I didn't know the school could look so dim." Y/n stated with her mouth full, finishing a breakfast bar.

The school itself was huge, four stories and more than two thousand students that hurried to their classes everyday. As an international school, many students transferred here from different countries, including Y/n and Jacob. The school usually stood so bright and proud during cloudy days, but somehow today the school looked bleak. It was a ghost town.

"I'm sure it's just the rain, once the sun comes out it'll look just fine." Jacob shrugged, advancing forward into the school.

"If you say so." Y/n trailed off, throwing her wrapper into a nearby trash can.

The pair walked into the dimly lit school, looking around and finding lots of fatigued students rummaging in their lockers. The ambient lights barely bright enough to read a book, yet it always gave Y/n a headache while she walked through the crowded halls.

Y/n made it to her locker, seeing her brother walk towards two people. One wore a simple white t-shirt with black jeans and a rain jacket wrapped around his waist. He was a freshman like Y/n, although she rarely saw him in any of her classes. Maybe because she slept half the time, but that's besides the point.

His name was Youngjae, but Jacob called him by his English name, Eric. The other person was wearing a black hoodie and blue ripped jeans, his Vans squeaked on the shiny tile. He wore a simple and shiny earring in his left ear, whether he wore another earring in his right was a mystery to Y/n, because she never looked at him long enough to know. His name was Hyungseo, but again, Jacob called him by his other name, Kevin.

Y/n stopped staring and took out her History textbook and her pencil case and walked towards her first period, trying to make it in time for her lesson. Though she didn't want to learn one bit of history.

Fun fact, Y/n hated studying.

It was her least favorite thing about school, she instead liked lunch, break and P.E. since they were the times she could relax and not worry about her work. She also loved the after-school Taekwondo club she attended quite often since her youth, her 4th degree black belt showing her devotion. What she didn't like to admit was that she contradicts the rest of her family, who were gentle and intelligent people.

Y/n arrived to her class, taking a seat in the back row next to a person with a very dark aura. Maybe they didn't get enough sleep, she thought. They had on a dark purple hoodie with black sweatpants, the hood was covering their face, so Y/n didn't mind them.

After the bell rang there was an echo of heels clicking in the hallway, silencing the classroom. The heels stopped just right outside the room.

The door opened to reveal a woman wearing black leather pants with a white button-up tucked into the waistband. Her hair was cut to her shoulders and her makeup was stunning. Y/n could practically smell her lavender perfume from all the way in the back which made her head spin. The beautiful lady looked too young to be a teacher, and Y/n sometimes questioned if she was still in college.

Her name was Ahn Soojin.

Contrary to her looks, she was as cold as ice and very stern.

"I will do roll call right after the person in the back takes off their hood." Ms. Ahn stated monotonously.

Everyone's eyes turned towards the person who sat right next to Y/n, even Y/n stole a glance at the mysterious person who sat beside her.

The person lifted their head slightly at the call out and sighed, hesitantly taking off their hood. A guy with midnight black hair and dark bags under his eyes. He looked like a mess.

"Okay, let's start. Ahn Beomsoo..." Ms. Ahn continued.

It wasn't long before Y/n was called, but it took a bit longer than expected to find out who was sitting next to her. She was never present during the rest of the roll call after her name, mainly spacing out or sleeping, even Ms. Ahn gave up trying to get her attention.

"Kim Sunwoo..." Ms. Ahn looked up, expecting an answer.

"Here." The boy called out from right next to her, his voice hoarse and raspy.

Kim Sunwoo, she repeated in her head.

"Y/n, please pay attention." Ms. Ahn interrupted Y/n's thoughts and sighed, continuing to call out names.

"Yes Ms. Ahn." Y/n mumbled, stealing one last glance at the boy before laying her head down, ready to fall asleep again.

Sunwoo eyed the girl that sat next to him, before draping his hoodie over his eyes again.
