[ ❝ we made it ❞ ]
It was a two-story fall. Falling from that high up would result in broken bones, or possibly death.
It felt like a dream Y/n once had when she was standing on the roof of a tall building in New York. She was looking over the edge, seeing the small cars and people walking. The sun was almost setting and there were clouds that flew over her head. It was calm until she felt hands on her back that pushed her. As she fell, she wasn't panicking, nor was she screaming. Instead, she was looking at the colors the sunset brought; yellow, orange, purple, and blue. The clouds made the sky look like a candy swirl.
It was like a painting, it reminded her of Starry Night. She learned about it in middle school, wondering why they were learning about a random guy from the Netherlands. Nonetheless, the dream ended tragically, as she hit the ground, all went black. She woke up with a jolt and fell off her bed, startling Jacob who was in the other room.
But, instead of the sky looking like a beautiful swirl of cotton candy, the sky was grey and clouds covered the sun. Y/n knew this was reality, so she closed her eyes, squeezed her hands, and curled into a ball, waiting for the impact.
But, the impact never came. She never felt the hard ground. Instead, she felt an arm under her leg and another around her back. Her eyes were still closed shut and her whole body was uncontrollably shaking. She let out a breath and slowly opened her eyes. She looked up and stared at a familiar face.
"Are you okay?" Hyungseo asked, looking for any signs of injury on Y/n's body.
Y/n slowly nodded, Hyungseo helping her stand up when she was tackled by Jacob.
"Jesus fucking Christ Y/n, you could have died."
"But, I didn't." Y/n giggled nervously as Jacob sent her a glare.
After the little jump scare, the group set out to look for nothing specific. Mainly shelter, food, or any signs of help nearby. The streets were littered with infected, not a single living person was seen for miles, so they maneuvered behind cars and around buildings to not alert any unwanted attention.
They traveling through a sea of vacant cars. Y/n was the one leading them, whispering to Ms. Ahn as they quickly moved from one car to another. The rest of the group wasn't far behind, but they couldn't exactly hear the conversation that the two were having, instead they were looking around, making sure not to alert the infected. Jacob decided to take the backpack that had the medical stuff in it from Y/n, since he could tell she was struggling to hold it. He didn't mind, it wasn't as heavy as he thought it would be.
Seeing the city so quiet was uncomfortable to them, especially since the only thing they could hear was the wind and the infected groaning. Chanhee was even unsettled with the overly still street, the infected stumbling around. The only thing that remotely comforted them was the sun coming out, making the streets bright enough to see anything that would be a danger to them.
It took about 15 minutes of maneuvering to arrive at a police station. Ms. Ahn wasn't so sure there was anyone there. There were no police cars, and the glass door was broken in. Y/n insisted on at least checking which made Ms. Ahn sigh. People agreed that Y/n and Hyungseo should check it out, which Y/n didn't mind, but somehow, someone did.
"I'll go too." Sunwoo declared.
the more the merrier, she thought.
All three of them tiptoed into the police station. Y/n brought her bat and so did Sunwoo, but Hyungseo stayed behind them, since he didn't have anything to defend himself with. Y/n was the first to check the front desk. She found no one there, but she noticed a key. She slid into her pocket and kept moving. They followed the hall towards the back, Y/n seeing a door that was slightly open. She gently pushed it with her foot, not seeing anything since the light was off.
