[ ❝on our own ❞ ]

Every step they took resulted in the sun setting faster. Y/n was getting impatient looking for shelter and the sun was disappearing behind the horizon fast. They were walking for what seemed like hours before Y/n saw something.

"Are those people?" Ms. Ahn asked.

Y/n ignored the question and turned on her phone, swiping from the top and pressing the flashlight button. She lifted the phone and shined the light toward the silhouettes in the distance. They slowly turned around and the group's eyes widen. Y/n turned off the flash and all of them started to back up.

"I hope you have a plan, Y/n." Jisoo asked.

Y/n breathed in harshly and mentally counted how many there were. 34... 35... and there might be more behind them, all we can do is sneak past... she thought.

"Whatever you do, don't fire your guns, it might attract more since they're sensitive to sound. Not that you know how to use them." Y/n grabbed her dagger, "we have to split up, I know it might be a bad plan, but we have to try." Y/n whispered.

She took out some flashlights she found at the police station and signaled the group to a nearby alley. She quickly gave out flashlights to everyone and quickly explained everything again, checking every once and a while if the infected were still there.

"Okay, me, Jacob and Ms. Ahn know this part of the city well, there is an alleyway next to the infected and it leads to a convenient store that I hope isn't swarmed with them yet, we have to stay there until morning. We can't go all at once since we'll make too much sound. I don't think they can see us in the dark so don't shine your flashlights at them. I think they're also attracted to light. Remember to be very quiet when sneaking past them." Y/n stated, recalling the time in the hallway. "I will go with Sunwoo, Hyungseo, Youngjae, Chanhee, Haknyeon, Jacob and Jisoo, the rest of you will go with Ms. Ahn. Remember, if you attract one of them, use knifes or bats, do NOT use guns." Y/n finished.

The group nodded, a bit frightened with her tone of voice, but nonetheless they understood. Ms. Ahn's group was going first, hugging the wall and slowly stepping towards the alley that led to their temporary shelter. Ms. Ahn signaled the small group to turn the corner, very cautious about the infected while doing so, and sped walk silently towards the convenience store as they disappeared.

Now it was time for Y/n and the rest.

It took a little convincing to make Youngjae stay up front with Y/n, mostly because he usually made the most noise out of all of them. Y/n kept looking behind her, checking if everyone was still there, and they finally made it to the corner of the building. Y/n could hear the sounds that they were making, horrible chokes and gags. The stench was worse, of course, because infected don't smell like cinnamon and daises.

Youngjae was covering his nose with his shirt, practically glued to the wall like the rest of the group. Jisoo was at the very back, shaking uncontrollably and trying to keep herself from screaming. Her hand was squeezing her mouth so hard, Y/n thought she was going to break her jaw. They were halfway to the opening where they could walk freely to the convenient store and meet up with the rest of the group.

When they rounded the corner, finally, the group sped walk to the opening, making as little noise as possible. They couldn't see anything, because the lights weren't on in the alleyway, practically saving them from having to run across the city.
