Mary was on her way to her cousins, admiring the scenery of the city she loved so much, when she saw Jane and Jack. She quickly darted behind a bush. Jack and Jane gazed up from each other's face.
"Did you see wh-" Jack whispered to Jane. Jane nodded and looked at the bush. Mary didn't move. This was tragic. Dear god if they came over s-
They carried on walking. She let out a deep sigh of relief and sped up her pace to the alley to the Fix-It shop, with a little skip in her step. She knocked on the door, and poked her umbrella through the letter box.
"Cousin Topsy?!" She exclaimed.
Unlike last time, today was the first Wednesday of the month, so she didn't need to worry about her cousin being stuck on the stairs.... AGAIN. As her mind once again drifted into day dreaming she heard a clack of heels, and saw Topsy approaching the door. Mary smiled. Topsy grabbed the door and opened it rather swiftly startling Mary as she stood straight. Topsy gasped, smiling.
"Well rather funny to see you here you old lady...." Topsy said cheekily.
Mary smiled. "Aren't I old?" She answered back with, going along with the joke. Her cousin led her into the house, and grabbed one of the hats that hung on the side and replaced Mary's with a top hat. Mary bit her lip and smiled. Topsy had always been a close relative. They may have always played like they hated one another if she came along with a job to see Topsy, but really they both adored one another. And, Topsy was close with the person closest to Mary's heart. Topsy passed Mary a tea as they sat down at the table hidden away in the corner.
"How are you? The banks happy now?" Topsy sipped her tea. Mary nodded.
"Perfectly fine, do you have the bowl coming to think of it," Mary replied with.
Topsy raised a finger in the air remembering, and grabbed it from the side and passed it.
"Oh you did a perfect job!" Mary said excitedly.
Topsy smiled.
"They were lovely to chat too...." Topsy said gazing at the picture on the bowl. On the bowl was Shamless and Clide, they were sitting in the grass with a cup of tea. Mary giggled.
"I'm glad, they're lovely in person too"
Topsy smiled again. Topsy saw so much of the one Mary held close to her heart in Mary. She knew it was a touchy subject but she took the risk.
"You smile just like your mother," Topsy smiled saying. Mary gazed up from the bowl.
Topsy gulped. That was a bad d-
"Do I?" Mary's face lit up as she said it. Topsy nodded and smiled.
"Did you get any presents from her?" Mary rolled her eyes, she was just like her umbrella.
Her umbrella, which was by her side, gave her a look of, I told you so. Mary shook her head.
"Mary...." Topsy said softly.
"She doesn't believe me but Mummy Poppins left her a cake," The umbrella spoke up. Mary felt tears.
"Hush!" She snapped at the umbrella and cover its mouth with her fingertips. Topsy had upset Mary she could tell.
"How's your cherry tree going, you said you were trying to grow one?" Topsy said trying to move the subject on.
"Not well, it's only tiny but I read that they take a while to grow," Mary replied with and rested the bowl on the side of the table. Topsy nodded. "I think we should have some fun!" Topsy leapt from her seat and went into some curtains and pulled out a long cardigan which had every colour you could imagine on it and skipped back to Mary. She stripped the coat off Mary replacing it with the colourful cardigan, and grabbed her arms.
"Cousin!" Mary snapped, trying to hide her excitement. Topsy just giggled as she put the record player on, and grabbed Mary's arms, swaying her around the room full off all the crazy objects. Topsy wanted Mary to let go for a second, to let Mary feel a little more human for awhile and make her feel.... feel a little loved, in a motherly way. Topsy smirked and raised her eyebrows as she did as she grabbed Mary's waist and ballroom danced. Still swaying her, Topsy carefully hummed along, encouraging Mary too and to let go. Mary let a smile escape her. They kept dancing, both giggling like children, and soon enough it grew to the afternoon. Mary hugged Topsy.
"Thank you cousin, I really needed that..." Mary smiled as she pulled from the cuddle. Topsy nodded and smiled.
"Anytime"
