Chapter Twenty-Three: Lack Of Parental Supervision

After walking for a short while, the sound of water flowing becomes the only sound in the forest.

The water being heard soon becomes visible as a long stream flows across the rough grass. It's too large to be able to jump across to the other side, but there are some small pebbles in the water like stepping stones.

Honey walks over to the stream and stares down at his reflexion. "This is it."

"He said this is it." I repeat.

Sayori runs up to the water and peers down at it, glancing inside the water curiously. "Hello? Any mermaids down there?"

"They haven't come up in while, right?" Natsuki asks, walking closer to the river slowly. "I wouldn't be surprised if they still wouldn't."

"Maybe they're in the water." Sayori suggests.

"You can't just go in the water." Natsuki growls. "Should we just come back later?"

"But maybe I can breathe under water!" Sayori exclaimed.

Natsuki crosses her arms. "So what if you can? You'll have to go down there alone since we can't breathe in water."

"Oh.."

ES? Do you think it's possible for us to learn how to breathe under water?

"Can you breathe under water now?"

Only for a minute or so.. I'm not the best swimmer.

"Is you element water?" [A/N: *Your*]

No..

"Then unless a miracle happens or there's a spell for this kind of thing, none of you guys can other then Sayori."

Oh..

"I doubt you guys are ready for it anyways. You still have a lot more to learn."

That's true..

"We can come back when we're ready." Yuri suggests quietly. "Does that sounds alright?"

Sayori nods, looking slightly down. I don't blame her; she probably wanted to use her powers to find her parents.

I glance up at the amber glow of the sky. "Come on, it's getting late, we should head back."

The blue eyed girl looks up at the sky, smiling. "Okie dokie! Thanks for your help Mr. Bear!"

"No problem kid." Honey nods and turns around to walk back to his cave.

I gingerly watch Sayori skip back into the forest, Natsuki quickly following behind. "Hey! You'll get lost, slow down!"

I hope Sayori isn't too upset.

"Why would she be? Do you not see her skipping around like a child?"

It isn't like that, Sayori's not..

"Monika? Are you coming?" I notice Yuri's concerned expression.

I nod quickly, trotting up to her. "Yeah, sorry."

"Goodnight guys!" Natsuki exclaims, opening the door across from us and entering her dorm.

"Have a good night you two." I wave slightly at them, Sayori unlocking the door to our dorm and jumping inside.
