Chapter Thirteen: Understanding At The Next Level

After laying our school bags on the grass under the large oak tree, we once again surrounded the creek.

"So? How's this going to work?" Natsuki asks.

I'm about to respond before I notice Sayori start to kick off her shoes and take off her school blazer.

"S-Sayori, what are you doing?" I ask uncertainly, watching as she rolls up her sleeves and drops the light jacket to the ground on her shoes.

"Well, only one way to use our powers the most effectively," Sayori begins to walk closer to the small river. "It's to be transformed!"

Before I, or the others, can do anything, Sayori jumps in the river, causing some water to splash up and onto Natsuki, who was the closest.

"Ow!" Natsuki hissed through gritted teeth as the water touched her skin, but Sayori paid no mind as she turned blue with her transformation.

After avoiding eye contact, we hesitantly glanced back to see Sayori resting her arms on the edge of the creek, her soft face smiling as her tail was gently swaying on the top layer of the water behind her.

"Sayori! Warn us before you do that!" Natsuki exclaimed, taking a step back from the water.

"Ehehe~ Sorry~"

I stop myself from thinking anything other the thoughts that decide to appear, and shake my head dismissively. That's when I notice five or four small green frogs padding in the water, some holding a small leaf or insect in their mouth.

Natsuki gasps. "Ew! Sayori there are frogs in this water, get out!"

But Sayori simply laughs and watches as a few of them swim by and do their best to avoid her. "Aww, but they're so cute!"

"Excuse me! We are not disgusting! What is wrong with you?!"

"..."

Was that a..?

Ahaha, I swear a heard a voice.

"But really, how are we going to practice our powers?" I ask, ignoring my mind making up sounds again.

Yuri glances at me, "I'm unsure. The way we normal used them was by emotion, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea.."

"Also unsafe." Natsuki adds, slightly smirking. "If angered, I could potential burn down this entire forest!"

Yuri rolled her eyes. "Don't get cocky."

"Ehehe~" Sayori giggles, gently poking a finger at one of the passing frogs, who essentially freak out and drop whatever they held, quickly swinging away. "Aww so cute!"

I walk over to her. "Sayori—!"

"Oi! You being in here is enough trouble, can you not nock over our delivery service?!"

What..?

I glance around myself.

The voice sounds slightly high pitched, but definitely male. "Did you girls.. Do that?"

"Do what?" Natsuki asks, drawing her glance away from Yuri and onto me.

"T-The voice.."

Yuri's eyes glow with concern in a matter of seconds. "Voice? We heard no different voices other than our own.."

"Yeah, are you feeling okay?" Natsuki asks.
