Synopsis:
"Hey Elle," Gavin said in a low tone, wiping the counter clean. " I bet a month's worth of dirty dish duty that you can't turn Scrooge into Santa's head elf in three weeks."Noelle Winters loves Christmas. She loves catching snowflakes on her tongue on snow days, reading by the fireplace with a big cup of hot cocoa. Christmas displays in toy shops and department stores make her happy. She loves how families get together and celebrate during the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas has this jolly, comfortable, warm, cozy feel to it that makes her want to bury herself in knitted sweaters, light Christmas scented candles and sing Christmas carols in the middle of town square.
With the cheery atmosphere in Fairview, who wouldn't join in on the holiday festivities?
Oliver Hastings. He hates Christmas. Loathes it. He hates how bright the lights are and how everything in town seems so whimsical and enchanted. it all makes him want to puke. He claims that celebrating the holidays are useless and a waste of time.
So what happens when Elle's boss hires Oliver to work at Gingersnaps? A nuclear explosion of candy canes and sugar plums, that's what.
She knows that no one's supposed to be unhappy on Christmas. Not even the grumpy Christmas hater named Oliver.
With the help of her best friend Carol, she writes a list of things to try and get Oliver in the spirit. She's determined to show him what he's missed out on so far like; "Go ice skating", "Have a snowball fight", and "Sing Christmas Carols.".
She has 22 days and she's up for the challenge.
Review:
What a long synopsis.
Long synopsis aside, this has got to be one of the better books on Wattpad. Just the way it's been written and the way everything flows so smoothly and #Noliver is just too much feels for one girl to handle.
The plot is slightly cliché, yet it just works so well. The whole thing ( if you fully read the long synopsis ) revolves around a bet to convince Oliver to, well, learn to love Christmas. There's also a bucket list of sorts, but it's more Christmassy. It's the perfect blend of clichés and twists and it just makes so much sense. the style of writing is a mix of small and long and detailed sentences.
Noelle is a surprisingly different character. She just loves Christmas and that's the thing that makes this plot un-cliché-ed if that makes sense. The way that she's so oblivious to other boys' feelings towards her adds to the book's charm. She also is a very positive protagonist, which you don't see often. she's not downsizing her weight or beauty, she doesn't even look in a mirror during the book for the most part. She doesn't cut, isn't depressed, has a full family, like what is this normal girl doing in a book on Wattpad where all the girls are the exact opposite of her?
Oliver is the stereotypical "school player" type, yet he also breaks the cliché. And he's hot, so we're all good 😄. His anti-Christmas attitude, when explained, just makes you melt and want to cry because the reason is relatable. And his pickup lines are amazing. ( " Even Santa doesn't make candy as sweet as you." ) Like, THE FEELS. There are parts where he acts true to his "type" but we'll excuse that.
As far as supporting characters go, Carol is a great person who knows how to put people in their place. Although she has player tendencies, she's a really nice character, bìtchy yet not too bìtchy. Gavin's also really cool. He's quite easy going, and doesn't judge Oliver, even when Elle and Carol do. (Also, if you notice, Noel is another word for Christmas, and Carol is self explanatory.)
Gavin's also the one who set the bet, which means he sees the good in people maybe?
This book has way too few reads for it's awesomeness. Only around 8k and you and I ( 🎤 You and I, we don't wanna be like... I'll stop now ) know that's way too few.
I was going to do another book this week but it's December, it's almost Christmas time, (5 days left!) so I thought why the heck not?
It's one of those "promoted by Wattpad" books, which is how I found it and I'm really glad I did.
The book is two chappies away from being finished, and the next update's on Christmas Day, so if you're reading this after the new year it'll probably be finished.
I really can't say anymore about this book than GO AND ADD IT TO YOUR LIBRARY NOW and READ IT. It's really good, trust me.
Merry Christmas!
Sai 😊I'm just listening to Four with an underline on repeat so I can't help but put that link below. And I heard some people thought that I was being too harsh on After. I read my review over and it was way too critique-y. It was more of a rant about it tbh. I should just start a rant book. The book's quite good, I just found a lot of faults in it, that's all. Oh, and I do realize that the disclaimer is after After (😄). I tried to fix it but it ain't fixin' so I'm leaving it. I might update again on Christmas but I'm not sure. If I do, it'll be another Christmas book.
