David had decided that we would go in different direction to get to the farm, something about not being predictable. We took the route through the high street, which meant that we had to pass by the butchers. I slid down in my seat as I spotted Ethan stood watching the street. It seemed that all he ever did is stand outside his shop and stare at passer-by's. Now that I knew that he was involved in criminal goings on, although I already knew what happened when dad sold him out for his black-market dealings, I wasn't surprised that he kept a lookout in case the police caught him.

'Should we contact the police?' mum timidly asked.

'No, the police are out of town and won't be much help,' David explained.

'Why?' mum asked, which I thought was stupid

'Ethan Brockhurst is the reason why we don't have a local bobby anymore. When he became a councillor that was this first thing he got done,' David stated like he wished to have five minutes with Ethan's head.

'I wonder why,' I muttered, thinking Ethan must of thought that this was a good idea because now the nearest police station to us was miles away. It would take hours for the police to respond to a 999 call.

'I think you must know,' David teased me

'Who was that person we captured?' mum enquired, obviously having got over her shock of having someone follow her around.

'My ex-boss,' I dropped the bombshell on her.

She turned around in her seat to face me with a gobsmacked expression on her face. David just lifted his eyebrow, as he looked at me through the central mirror.

'It just keeps getting more interesting,' he remarked a little tongue in cheek.

'Ex-boss, the same man who called you?' mum quired me.

'He fired me, after what I saw late one evening,' I confessed to her.

Mum looked angry at my confession which had me worried that she would blow her gasket at me. As it turned out she was angry at my ex-boss.

'When I get my hands on him... I'll make him wish he never lived,' she hissed.

'Death threats aside, Gwen, it's against the law and you could be arrested for GBH. They have got Ethan on their side, darling,' David teased mum.

Darling, I thought slightly amused, hold your horses, David. Still, I said nothing to dissuade David's blatant flirting, feeling sort of like I was third wheeling with them now.

We took the road that led out to the farm, as David rang the others, by using Bluetooth in his car to check on their progress of how they were doing about getting to the farm. It seemed that nobody had been following them on the route they'd taken, which relieved me no end. Just as he got off the phone to Helen, it rang again. It was Aunt Connie. Her voice filled the car due to the fact that David's phone was connected to the car's Bluetooth.

'Have you got there yet?' she asked impatiently, like she was getting bored with her baby sitting job.

'No, not yet,' mum pipped in.

'How long does it take to get up to the farm?'

'Patience is a virtue,' mum teased.

'Really Gwen, I'm sat here missing all the fun and excitement as I have to babysit Mr stalker here.'

'So, he hasn't moved yet,' David quizzed.

'No, I tied him up to the fireplace guard with an old washing line I found in the shed. I also handcuffed him to the gas fire now in the open fireplace, so he isn't going anywhere,' she proudly stated.
