The best description of Lizzie was that of a charging elephant as she marched up to me. She was absolutely fuming, as she grabbed my arm and hauled me to her car.
'Cara and me have a long overdue chat to be had,' Lizzie informed mum like sugar wouldn't melt in her mouth.
'Make sure that she is back by a reasonable time,' mum uttered before slamming the front door shut, hopefully locking it.
'Right you and I. Walk now,' Lizzie ordered like a sergeant major. There was no way I was going to weasel my way out of this conversation. I would have rather faced a death threat from my boss than the enraged pregnant woman Lizzie was.
Our quick marching took us to a park. We entered the play area, which was fenced off, due to the fact that people's dogs kept shitting where the children played. Lizzie parked her carcass down onto a bench, to which I followed shortly after.
'Your angry,' I bleated our pathetically.
'Not just angry, I'm upset that you didn't feel the need to inform me about Devon.'
'I wanted to but I didn't because of Robin and the new baby...' I began only to be cut off.
'Cara, you can't keep all your problems from me just because I have a child and another on the way to look after,' She beseeched me, as she leaned forwards and clasped my hand with hers.
Without even trying she had caused me to feel like a small insect for hurting her feelings. I knew that she had issues about people not telling her things. Her mum and dad, Liz and Sam Stevens, had taught her the principals that one shouldn't lie, even if it was to spare someone's pain.
'I didn't want you to worry,' I gulped out, feeling slightly on the verge of tears as I felt like I had been a big disappointment. I clenched my hands together to force myself not to cry.
'And have you worry all by yourself,' Lizzie smiled. I gave her a watery one back.
'I don't know what to do...' I trailed off.
'I would say not to worry, things will turn out well in the end,' Lizzie looked on the bright side of life
'But it's bigger than that.'
With this I proceeded to confess all about my involvement with Devon, how I'd caught him cheating with another woman, and how I'd also witnessed him doing something that I thought could have been illegal. I also had to tell her all about the dress and how I'd bought another dress and swapped the concealed item into it. I felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders once everything was out in the open.
Lizzie took my words like a champion, as she squared her shoulders.
'Well that changes everything,' She joked, as she tried to make me crack a smile. I smiled half-heartedly at her attempts of bringing light onto the situation.
'Yes, I really don't know what to do. I'm scared that they might hurt mum.'
'They won't hurt your mum because she will know what is going on,' She ordered me again.
'But mum will freak out at me,' I sighed with desperation.
'No, she won't' Lizzie tutted. 'Where is the dress at the moment?'
'In dads' old car. I moved it when they broke into the bungalow and searched my room,' I informed her.
'Give it to me.'
'What? No!' I exclaimed in horror.
'The car isn't a good hiding place. If I was them, I would search the car next,' Lizzie told me. Having a dad as a cop sometimes did have its merits.
