Jabes' POV
St. Louis Police Station...
"Thank you officer. We'll go ahead." I give Officer Thomas a salute before I finally enter my car.
Quinn is beside me and she's busy tapping something on her phone's screen. I tried to take a peek on what she's typing but she tilts it away from me.
"Do you know a thing called privacy?" she rolls her eyes and focuses them on her phone's screen again.
I smirk while shaking my head.
"A lot happened today. I need a rest." I release a deep sigh before I drive.
"Are you going home now?" I ask the lady beside me but she did not respond.
When I glance at her, she's reading something on her phone while she's smiling.
I grab the phone from her.
"Hey! Bring that back to—"
I toss it on her lap after seeing what's on the screen. It was a photo of Enid and Phil. They're getting along with each other. Enid is not Phil's type. I don't know what are his plans for Quinn's best friend.
"Could you just focus on your low-key driving?" she crosses her arms on her chests and looks outside the window.
"You know what? You're the most ungrateful human that I've known in this world."
"Noted with thanks," and she say it like it's my privilege to hear that from hear mouth.
"Are you even aware that I've put my life at risk for you? The Settmans will be after me for what I did to their son."
"Why don't you get some protection from that police officer friend of yours?" she rolls her eyes.
"Who? Gia?"
"I don't know. How would I know her name?" she shrugs her shoulders.
"Gia is a just a friend of mine. I asked help from her about your case."
"Yeah? Whatever?"
I softly laugh with her reaction.
"Why? Is there something funny?"
"Gia is a married woman."
"Married? Really married? She's clinging onto your arms like she's a monkey playing on a monkey bar and you're telling me she's married?"
I smile.
"Why are you smiling?"
"I've met Gia when I was still vagabonding here in St. Louis. I was walking inside a mall that day when I heard a sound of a gun from a jewelry shop and there was a hostage taking. To summarize everything, I went inside the jewelry shop, beat the thieves before the police came in and...I became an instant hero. Gia approached me, she thanked me like I was Spider-man who saved millions of lives and she gave me her calling card. She told me that if I need anything, I'll give her a beep."
"Noted again with thanks but I didn't ask," she rolls her eyes again.
I smirk. "I'm just trying to explain why she's that close to me."
"D-did you also...I mean, is she also one of your customers—"
"She's a police officer for goodness sake, a married police officer Quinn! Are you out of your wits?" I unbelievably glance at her.
