As soon as we got back from church, I went straight to my room to take a nap. I didn't wake up until six and that was only because I was hungry. Then I remembered.
"Mia!" I ran to Mia's room where she was at her desk doing homework.
"What?" She looked up at me with big eyes.
"I have a date with Brett in an hour." I told her.
"Brett?" It took her a minute to catch on. "Brett! Oh! What will you wear?" She asked, immediately getting up from her seat.
"Not a dress," I frowned.
"I still can't believe you only own four dresses." Mia said, walking past me and to my room.
I followed behind her slowly.
"Where's he taking you?" She asked.
"Olive Garden."
"Ally, you have to dress up!" Mia tossed me a yellow tunic top and a pair of leggings.
"Wear those black heels. Wear your hair down in it's naturally curly state," She instructed. "want me to do your makeup?"
"No," I said quickly. "I'm just hungry."
"Get dressed." Mia left my room.
Since I lived closer to Olive Garden, I walked to the restaurant in heels.
Inside at the front desk was Brett, waiting for me. He was dressed in a green collared shirt and khaki pants. When he saw me, he combed his hair back with his hand.
"You look great," He smiled.
"Thanks, so do you." I really meant that.
The hostess took us to our table and we sat down across from each other. We ordered drinks and Brett ordered for the both of us. I'm the very independent type. He ordered what I wanted, so I had no reason to complain.
"So how are you liking the sudden fame?" I asked as I sipped my sweet tea.
"It's too much for me," Brett chuckled. "at Dave's party last night, everyone acted like they were my friend. I didn't know any of those people."
"You should have called out, I would have saved you." I smiled.
"You were there?" He asked.
"See, you had so many people around you that you didn't even know we were in the same house!"
"I feel like I would have seen someone as beautiful as you," He winked.
"Well," I bit down on my bottom lip. "next time you'll have to party with me."
After our food came, we ate and really got to know each other. Brett is an only child from Texas. He used to play for Texas A&M, but never got any playing time. He's an economics major and plans to become a financial assistant if football doesn't work out.
"I'm full," I said, leaning back in my chair and playing with my food baby.
"Ready to go?" Brett asked.
"If you are," I sighed.
"Did you walk here?" He asked. "In heels?"
"Yeah, I regret it," I said, taking my heels off and continuing to walk.
"Here, get on my back," He offered.
"You sure?"
"Hop on."
I jumped on his back and he continued to walk.
"So why haven't you ever spoken out to me before?" I asked.
"Well," I heard him sigh. "you were always hanging with Ethan and all the other first-stringers all the time. I figured I could never get you alone. Then when you came in for tutoring, I had to pinch myself."
His explanation made my heart flutter.
"I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad I went to the library that day," I smiled. "you're so sweet."
"I'm only sweet because you're beautiful." He said. "Where do you live?"
"Right here at Hurricane Complex," I said, pointing a few yards away.
"Those are nice," his voice vibrated through his back.
"Where do you stay?" I asked.
"Those apartments by the stadium," he said, walking up to my building.
"That's so far," I said with my mouth agape.
"I drove to the restaurant," Brett said, helping me off his back. "I just wanted to walk with you. I'm not ready to leave you."
I led him up to my floor. "Well, this is me." I sighed, not wanting to leave him either.
Brett reached and stroked my cheek. He cupped my chin in his hand and leaned in and softly kissed my lips. His soft kiss was so powerful that I wanted more. I put my arms around his neck and pressed my body against his. Once the heavy breathing started, he pulled away and said, "Wow, I'm glad you're failing Business Finance."
I tried to hold my laugh in as I gave him a soft nudge in the chest.
"Goodnight, Ally Jo." He said, letting me go.
"G'night, Brett." I said, walking into my apartment.
