You make my heart beat faster

It was a Thursday evening. Stevie and Alice would always meet up for dinner at some place, Alice would come over as often as she could to visit her mother, but Thursdays were just for the two of them with no interruptions. And that night was no exception, as the two women were enjoying a meal at an Italian restaurant.

Alice got her bachelor‘s degree in psychology two years ago and for that amount of time she had been in training. She was so different from Stevie in character. While Stevie was always fun and usually careless, Alice was very serious most of the time, very sophisticated. She would hate it every time when someone told her she was so much like Lindsey. But when it came to looks, she was all Stevie when she was in her twenties. Alice had a slim frame, taller than Stevie, but shorter than Lindsey. Her hair was naturally curly, gorgeous honey blonde color, down to her middle back. She definitely inherited Lindsey‘s blue eyes. Stevie didn‘t even realize she was staring at her daughter.

“Mom, are you ok? You‘re creeping me out.“

“I‘m fine. Just... You‘re so beautiful, Alice.“

“I am your daughter after all.“ She smiled brightly.

“Oh, please, I am nothing compared to you, darling.“

“Mom, you‘re stunning!“

“I appreciate it you saying that.“

“And what is really the matter?“

“Nothing, honestly.“

“You do know I‘m almost a psychologist?“

“I don‘t understand how you can be. You‘re too gorgeous to be stuck in a darkened room all day, dealing with other people‘s problems.“

“Well, but I don‘t have a voice you could recognize anywhere nor do I play guitar as if my life depended on it.“

“I‘m just joking, Alice. I‘m happy as long as you are in whatever you choose to do.“

“Again, coming back to what‘s going on with you?“

”You‘re getting married in a month and I was wondering whether you have everything sorted out?“

“Well, yes, more or less everything is prepared for the ceremony and the party, the honey moon is up to Jeremy.“

“Is the whole plan for the ceremony really complete?“

Alice caught on what Stevie was referring to. “Mom, I‘m not going to ask him.“

“Why?“

“You know why...“ She took a sip of water, wishing to skip this topic. “Because I just... because he‘s a jerk.“

“Alice, he‘s your father.“

“I wish he weren‘t.“

“Take that back!“

“Oh my god, I‘m sorry... I... I didn‘t mean that.“ Her hand went to cover her mouth in shock, she genuinely didn't mean it.

“You can‘t speak like that. I know Lindsey has done more wrong than right, but he‘s been trying for over 10 years to make it up to you. Quite frankly, I think he‘s done so much for you, Alice. I don‘t understand, nor have I ever, why are you so against him?“

“Because dad‘s been a real asshole to you for the majority of your relationship.“

“Darling, that is his and mine problem, not yours.“

“You‘re right, like always, but mom, I can‘t just look past through everything he‘s done to hurt you. Sure, dad‘s been doing everything to make it up for me, but let‘s not forget he wanted nothing to do with either of us once he found out you were pregnant.“
