"What is Maureen saying? Why did she call you Mom? Why is she leaving?” bakas sa mukha ni Alonzo na naguguluhan siya sa mga panyayari.
Mom stood up and went to him.
“Alonzo, I h-have something to tell you” Mom said at pinaupo ito sa gilid ko.
Ano ito magmemeeting kami, ganun?
“M-om tell me is she your daughter?” naguguluhang tanong nito.
“Remember when I told you that your Dad is just jealous of someone that's why his hurting mommy?”mom said softly to Alonzo.
Tinignan ko lamang sila habang nagpapaliwang si Mommy. Bakas ang pag-alala at sakit sa mata nito. I don’t know how will he take it pagnalaman na nito ang totoo.
“Maureen is my daughter in other man before your dad and I met. Your grandparents hid her to us when she’s still a baby at nalaman ko lang rin kahapon that it’s her whom I’m looking all these years. And now she’s leaving us” maiyak-iyak na wika ni Mommy.
Nalulungkot din akong iwan sila rito. I knew that Dad is reasonable that he wanted to spend more time to me. I also knew that Mommy wanted me to stay to treat me not as her adopted child but this time as her real daughter.
I don’t want to choose. I don’t want to leave but I also don’t want to let my father alone whose been aching to see me.
“Y-you are l-eaving?” Alonzo asked. Tumango ako rito at bumuhos ang luha sa mga mata nito. Hindi ko alam kung para saan ang mga luha na iyun. Dahil ba sa katotohanan na sinabi ni Mommy o dahil sa aalis na ako.
But whether of it, naiyak na rin ako sa isipan na aalis na ako rito at maiiwan mag-isa si Alonzo. Sino na lang magpapatahan sa tiyanak na ito? Sino nalang magbabantay pagmagkukulit na naman ang isang 'to?
Stop Maureen, it’s not the time to hold back. Andyan pa naman si Nana for sure hindi nito pababayaan si Alonzo.
And of course Dad is planning to have them beside us at hinding-hindi ako maawa kay Uncle Ross pag wala ng matira sa kanya.
If I need to close my eyes in order for me not to see him begging when that time comes, I will. If I have to turn my back then I will.
He was warm when they took me at the orphanage but a week passed he started treating me as minion and hurt me when no one is around and when he wanted. He's sick!
“I am, but you are my real brother now huh!” pag-iiba ko sa usapin namin. I said it to him in a sarcastic way kaya natawa naman ito bahagya and I knew we will be a good sister and brother to each other.
“Tsk” na wika na lamang nito.
“But will you have to leave? Can’t you just stay with us? I’ll treat you better. I’ll call you ate” ngumiti naman ako sa sinabi nito. How glad it is to be called ate. I have finally someone who I could lean on.
“It’s not that I need to or I have to, but it’s what I want. I would love to spend time to my father too. I don’t know him and I want to know everything about him.”
“He’s your father so eventually makikilala mo rin siya but you don’t need to live with him. You can still see each other even you stay here with us” pangungulit pa ni Alonzo.
Hindi lang naman iyun ang gusto ko. I want to be with my family, sure they are my family too but I want to have a home, I want to have a place and live with them. And Uncle Ross being here is not! I wouldn’t call this home even I grew up here. It’s not like I live her with such glorious, hindi rin man empyerno pero gusto ko paring makasama ang pamilya ko ng buo.
It may sound selfish to Alonzo, but I need them. I need my mom and dad with Nana and Alonzo. No, Ross in the context.
“Hindi naman sa ayaw ko rito Alonzo, I would love to be with you, Mom, and Nana but I want to live with dad too. Hindi ko alam kung paano e-explain sa iyo kung gaano ka hirap din sa akin naiwan kayo rito especially that your dad is hurting Mom. If I can too, I will take you with me. I’ll talk to dad”
Iyun naman talaga ang plano ni daddy. I shouldn’t spoiled it. Damn, you Maureen!
“What?”
“Don’t mind me, but please let me stay with dad, mom and Alonzo, please?” pagmamakaawa ko sa kanila.
I heard them both sighed kaya natawa nalang ako sa kanila nagsabay pa kasi.
“SO, THAT’S THE TRUTH! Eewan niyo ako rito!” someone said furiously. Tinignan ko kung saan iyun galing and my heart beats so fast out of panic and worry.
Uncle Ross eyes were black and I could see in his eyes how angry he is. I can also smell the scent of alcohol.
Sa takot ko sa kanya I hid behind my mothers back. Damn. Saan na iyung sinabi kong protektahan sila? Why am I hiding behind my mothers back instead of protecting her from him?
Alonzo started crying and my eyes is a bit blurry because I’m so scared of him.
“NARINIG KO LAHAT MALORY! RINIG KO LAHAT!” sigaw nito kay Mom. Narinig ko ang pagbasag ng boteng hawak nito ni hindi ko nga napansin na may dala pala itong buti ng alak.
I saw Mom’s foot with blood. Nang makita iyun ni Alonzo umiyak ito ng malakas na lalong nagpagalit kay Uncle Ross.
He’s now walking slowly towards us at ng nasa harapan na namin siya he strangled Mom so I held his arm to pull it away but his to strong kaya sinipa ko ang binti nito.
Mom catches her breath when Uncle Ross turned his gaze to me. Hindi ko namalayan ang kamay na papunta sa mukha ko at isang malakas na sampal ang dahilan upang mapunta ako sa rehas ng balkonahe.
My Mom went furious nang makita niya iyun. Dahil sa sakit ng sampal ni Uncle Ross hindi ako makatayo ng mabuti dahil na rin sa sakit ng likuran kung nahampas sa metal na rehas.
Uncle Ross pulled my mother's hair while Alonzo stop the other hand of his father. Ngunit kahit ang anak nito ay binalewala at napalo niya ito dahilan upang makawala si Mommy sa kamay nito.
Mom is about to hit him when Uncle Ross punched her face. Parang tuamaas ang dugo ko sa nagawa nito kaya ininda ko ang sakit sa likuran at kinuha ang kalahating basag na buti sa sahig at hinampas sa ulo niya.
But it didn’t make him faint like in movies I’ve seen before instead hinampas niya ako ng malakas dahilan upang lumipad ako papuntang pader I want to stand up but my body doesn't cooperate. The last thing I saw is Nana running towards me kasama si Daddyand then everything went black.
