I practically ran out of the office and back to my own. The United States! I get to go to the United States! I'd never been, but I knew that it was far bigger than the United Kingdom, and I knew that this case could take me anywhere within its infinite borders. I spent a few more hours in my office finishing a few reports and reviewing other cases to make sure I left nothing behind or open when I left the country. Then, cautiously, I opened the new case file.

The crime in question was a series of murders across the country. The victims were all different races, both men and women, and varied socio-economically. Each victim had been killed in their rooms by multiple stabs to the back; and shards of glass, each covered in their blood had been placed carefully around them in a circle. On every nearest mirror, which had been broken to supply the murder weapon, the killer had written the same message: "Bad luck, Senator." The FBI had, aptly, deduced that the final target would be a senator serving in the United States Senate. State-level senators had been ruled out because the crimes had taken place all over the country instead of being isolated to a specific area. What the FBI couldn't determine is which senator and, well, who the murderer is. They believed that figuring out who the ultimate target is would greatly help them find the murderer. They needed fresh eyes. Better eyes. That's where I came in.

I closed the file and packed up my things for the day. I turned off the lights, left the room, locked the door behind me, and left the building. I took the Tube back home and packed my things; office outfits like the one I was wearing, one or two more formal outfits, and a few more casual ones for when I would be in the field. I packed my notepad, pens, and case file in my carry-on, and made sure to pack anything else I'd need. My flight information and tickets had been sent to me via email. I downloaded all of it to my phone and printed copies in case something happened. With everything where it needed to be, I got ready for bed and settled in for one last sleep in my country.
