Chapter 6

The thought of her loving only me, that's the thing that keeps me strong... Donell Jones "All Her Love"

Cavon sat shaken from the words that his great grandmother said to him. On many occasions he was told by his father, that his mother wasn’t anything great to brag on. But even though Cavon was young, he knew that his mother took great pride and care into raising him the very best that she can. There were many times he could slightly recall, when he would have quietly watch his father hurt his mother with mean words or with his hands. Whatever his mother and his father shared was way deadlier than love. His Uncle Warren would always tell him that if he had a son, he would want him to be a splitting image of him. Those words strung alone in the same sentence would replay in his mind as he would watch his mother and uncle spend precious time together.

Him and his great-grandmother were alarmed from their emotions as soon as Talisha raced over to their sides to find out what was going on. Talisha opened her arms to give her nephew a huge hug. Cavon smiled as he felt nestled into her embrace and the smell of Cantu’s Coconut Curling Cream lingered from her wash and go, which gave him a little peace of mind.

She held Cavon tightly to her heart. Once she let him go, she looked deeply into his eyes searching for the right words to say.

“It will be all right Cavon. We will make it through this together tonight.” She spoken softly hoping that what she just said, didn’t worry him any more than what he already was.

“Okay, Aun’t Talisha.” He replied faintly as he sat back next to his great-grandmother.

Mama Jingles sat with no expression on her face. She ignored Talisha and what she felt was fake sympathy for her sister. Talisha stood in front of her grandmother and waved her hanfs back and forth.

“Grandma’ J what’s wrong with you? I would have thought you would have been reciting Bible verses to Cavon until, I made it here.” She joked as she took a seat on the opposite row in front of them.

Mama Jingles shook her head back and forth and stood up with rage and said, “Let me tell you something Talisha, me and Cavon been sitting in here for over 50 fucking-long- minutes waiting for your ass to make it here. I don’t think you really give a damn about your lil’ sister in that room down there fighting for her muthafuckin’ life. You want to come high stepping in this hospital like you late for a got-damn-photo-shoot! I see right through you and your bullshit Talisha, and you better let me finish talking before I knock that sassy ass look off of your face. You so damn busy checking up on dick that you not even a bit worried for your sister’s life!” Mama Jingles said with frustration and rage in her tone.

Talisha smiled and looked from her nephew to her grandmother as she replied back, “I am a grown ass women grandma. I can do what the hell, I please. Last time, I checked, I damn sure wasn’t the one who had my sister shot or did I know what the hell was going on in her house. I love my damn sister! I am not responsible for what has happened to her. I am not her damn keeper! I did all the hell, I can and could for her and my nephew, fuck and even you! If I am going to chase dick, since that’s what you want to call it then, I think you really need to lay your burdens on the table with God and leave them there. Lord, knows Casey is the one who was chasing dick, and that’s what have us all here tonight yelling at one another like we have no respect for each other!” Talisha finished her words still seated and pulled out her iPad mini to relieve the tension between them two.

“Don’t talk about my mama aun’t.” Cavon said with his eyes squinted with tears.

“Cavon, this is between me and your great-grandmother and not you child.” She spat back at her nephew.
