The chapters aren't in sync because the early chapters are being tweaked. Once I finish, I'm going to share what I changed and added but the story is still the same so you can just go on with your life without rereading haha!

.

There's been a breach of security, I repeat! There's even a breach of security at the privacy department. And by that I mean I see two heads full of colourful hair and menacing faces directed at me at my own room.

How they got in here is questionable in itself, but why they were allowed in, considering one is obviously of the opposite gender is concerning. They are both of age and I'm younger. They're not here to beat me up, right?

Rick, the red head just glares at me and Bianca keeps telling him to calm down.

"What's wrong? Why are you both here?"

In the late late hours of the night that I wish to sleep in, do tell me why you woke me up?

"How did you do it?" (Rick)

"Do what..?"

"How did you get papa to give you the right to try the sceptor?" (Rick)

Hmm?

I don't understand what you're saying?

"Mercia, please, listen..." (Bianca)

"No, you should be mad at her! She took your chance!! And who is she to do that to you??" (Rick)

Yeah, okay, good show.

But I really don't know what this sceptor whatever they're talking about is. I don't remember snatching anything or asking for anything.

"Rick! Father gave her a chance. I don't know why, but I respect his decisions...." (Bianca)

"No, I don't understand what you're talking about. What was I given?"

Rick harrumphed in the most obnoxious way possible, "Papa is giving the chance to hold the sceptor to you. It's a chance for every kingdom's princess to become the bearer of faith."

He continued on, not waiting for me to understand, "And that should have been Bianca's place! You shouldn't have meddled and take it away from her."

"I wasn't given the chance, I really don't understand."

Why did you wake me up in the middle of the night to tell me some bogus story about faith?? Are you here just to make trouble???

"Mercia, father hasn't told you, but this chance is very precious. I don't think you're ready for the responsibility that it may bring... When father tells you, please do refuse. I'm saying this for your own good." (Bianca)

"For her own good? No! You should be honest and tell her that she doesn't deserve it! She's just a street orphan with no name-" (Rick)

"Rick! You can't!" (Bianca)

"Then you will let her stay this way? A huge phony and a thief?" (Rick)

As they continued with their two person dialogue, I was just going to quietly go back to sleep but the conversation led somewhere interesting.

I'm just a street orphan....

"I'm not of royal blood?"

"You never were!" (Rick)

That would explain a lot of things, but  that still wouldn't explain why I was brought in. Alright, nah, I'm probably just an illegitimate one, it'd make no sense to adopt a child from the streets.

"Sure, I'm just a street rat, yes? Alright, I understand, refuse the offer.. mmhm, okay."

Please leave already, I'm too tired to deal with any of your nonsense right now.

"Mercia, I understand that Rick can get a little over excited, but he's telling the truth. You...aren't royal."

Bianca stepped closer to the bed and held my hands, looking very anxious, "The sceptor is very powerful, and its wielder needs to be of royal blood, or they'll be in great pain."

"I understand, I'll refuse it.."

I tried to pry my hands away from Bianca but she tightened her hold on them.

"I wanted to have a sister for so long, someone I could talk to that would understand. And when you came.. I was happy. When I found out, I... I became disappointed. You..aren't my sister."

Her hands gripped mine with so much strength I would've thought she wanted to crush them. It hurt, it hurt! I pulled at it but she kept her grip.

"I can still treat you like a sister, but you should....behave the right way."

She loosened her grip and patted my hand, giving me a small smile.

I didn't reply. I didn't know what I should reply with anyways, and I needed some time to think.

"Let's go, brother."

.

I opened my eyes and rubbed them, thinking yes, it was all a dream.

What with a faith sceptor that only royals can wield and all about that I'm just an orphan nobody!

Everything makes more sense if it was a dream, yes definitely!

I looked at the straight black hair flowing down my shoulders, and thought about it again...

Was it really a dream? There was always a debate on the colour of my hair. Black, pure black. Nobody else had them and my mother, who I have very little memories of definitely had brown hair.

And my red eyes? Could they be a sign of royal blood? Rick's eyes were red. So are mine!

Yeah, okay, nothing's gonna come from thinking about it too much. Just accept it. A king with multiple children has gone crazy by adopting a random orphan on the street. He took her in and left her alone and now gives her this amazing chance to kill herself?

The faith sceptor.. only royal blood can wield it... Okay, sure, maybe they were wrong about the king giving me the chance. Maybe they just misheard him say my name.

And Cal? My brother that I've grown to trust and depend on? Am I just noone to him now?

Does he know?

Will our relationship be different when he knows?

I'm thinking about this too much. Maybe I just need a break. No existential crises can be solved at the break of dawn!

Let's go to the garden... Yeah, I need some fresh air.
