"Earth to Caleb, hellooo!"
Caleb blinked a few times, drawing his attention back to the brunette sat across from him who was giving him an irritated look. "Um, sorry, what?"
She rolled her eyes, eyeing him suspiciously. "You've been spacing out this whole time. What's with you?"
"Sorry, I'm just— just thinking."
"About what?"
"Um—"
Her lips pressed against his own, so soft yet firmly. She pulled away just as quickly as she had done it.
"—nothing, actually. Just kind of out of it."
Millie eyed him suspiciously, clearly not believing what he was saying. "It's definitely something."
Finn shook his head from beside the brunette, arm casually wound around her shoulders, reaching his hand out towards the brown paper bag that held their warm, fresh cookies from the cafe.
It had been a week since Caleb spent the night (his first night) in Sadie's apartment. A week since she had drunkenly kissed him so chastely. A week that had been filled with Caleb trying to forget it like nothing had happened because Sadie seemed to be doing that exact thing.
A week in which he failed at doing so.
But, he was trying to forget it. He really was. There was the distraction of music, the distraction of his photography , the distraction of his friends; but at the end of every day, she was still there crawling towards the front of his mind.
It didn't't help that she was also there right before his eyes. Sadie could be receiving her mail, wiggling her key into the lock, giving him a small smile as he waved sheepishly. Then the feel of her soft lips surfaced to the front of his mind, and he had to shove it away as he reminded himself that she was merely a friend. Just a friend.
Caleb situated himself more comfortably from where he sat in the booth across from the couple. "So, what were we talking about?"
Finn snorted lightly. "Nice try. You know she won't let you off that easy."
Caleb glared at Finn before bringing his gaze to Millie, who was narrowing her eyes at him expectantly.
