chapter 2

Summer time, Outer banks

I laid down on the floor of the pogue, as John B drove the boat to pick our friends up. "Dude, look at this place" JJ whistles, "Agatha, what did you do?" I looked around as neighbors cleaned the mess last nights storm caused, "She is a crazy lady" John spoke, "Hard-core" JJ said.

"Well look who he have here" John yells, smiling at Pope. "We have a safety meeting. Attendance mandatory" John B spoke statically into his hand, "I can't. My pops got me on lockdown" "Come on, man" JJ mimics the static, "Your dad's a pussy. over" JJ said, making me giggle. "Oh, I heard that, you little bastard." Heyward walked towards the dock, "We need your son" "Yeah, and island rules, day after a hurricane is a free day" JJ spoke. "Who made that up?" "Uh Pentagon, I think, we have security clearance." I said, standing up on the seat. "I have a card" JJ said reaching into his pockets, "Y'all think I'm stupid?" Heyward questioned, "I promise I'll do it tomorrow. I promise." Pope said, "just get in the boat" JB whispered to him.

We picked up Kie next, "Good morning boys and girl" she walked down the dock, JJ giving her a hand into the boat.

"You got my kind of juice boxes" JJ asked, "yeah." JJ got up on the front of the boat showing us a party trick, "Doesn't work" JB replied handing me a beer from the cooler. "JJ you're getting beer in my hair" "JJ get down" I said annoyed now. "Hey, Pope can you go a little faster" JB said, the boat sped up.

We heard the motor rattle and all of us lurched forward, we screamed startled by the quick stop. JJ flipped off the boat and into the water, "JJ" I shrieked, touching my head as I got up. "Jesus, Pope" JB groaned, "you okay JJ?" JB asked, looking for JJ, "I think my heels touch the back of my head" he groaned, coughing up some water.

"Kie, Chlo, you okay" Pope asked, "Yep" "Yeah" we groaned out.

"Pope, what did you do?" JJ snapped, climbing back into the boat. "Sandbar, the channel changed" He shrugged. "No shit."

"Hey, I saved the beer though" JJ happily exclaimed.

"Congrats, JJ" I rolled my eyes. "Uh...guys, I think there's a boat down there" Pope said, "shut up, no there isn't" "No, no. Guys I'm serious. There's a boat down there." "Holy shit" we all spoke, low and behold there was an actual boat underwater. Agatha probably sunk the poor guys boat, whoever owned it.

We all jumped in the water going to check it out, the water warm and still.

"You guys saw that" Kie said once all of us resurfaced, "That's a Grady white. A new one of those is like 500 Gs, easy." JJ rambled on. "Yeah, That's the boat I saw when I surfaced the surge" JB said, "You surfed the surge??" Kie and I immediately said, "That's my boy, pogue style" JJ dabbed his friend up.

Going against Kie and I, JB went back in the water to check out the boat and see if we could find anything on who owned it. "what an idiot, surfed the surge" Kie mumbled, "Kie, he's fine" I said sitting down beside her.

"A motel key" we heard the guys mumble, "we should really just report it to the coast guard, maybe get a finders fee" I spoke, adjusting my sun glasses. "Yeah and not have to work for the entire summer, thanks Agatha ya batch" JJ joked, making us laugh.

{ Later that day.. }

"Hey did Top ever ask about yesterday" I asked Rafe sitting on his bed, "He brought it up but I just said he caught me off guard cus I didn't think he knew the code" he said, "oh okay" I mumbled, "what's wrong" he sat up, "what if he caught me there, like imagine how fucked everything would be" I looked up at him, "no Topper wouldn't, he's too whipped over my sister, don't worry about it babe."

"Why don't we spend the day tomorrow on the mainland?" Rafe said walking in with a bag of candy, "really?" I was surprised, "okay I'm down" I reached for the bag of sour patch kids.

The rest of the day I spent with Rafe, my dad wouldn't care and the group is used to me going MIA for a few hours.

"Here, I'll show you" he laughed, he was trying to teach me how to swing the golf club. "Sorry Kook sport" I looked down, He got behind me grabbing my hands and adjusting them to the right spot.

"Oops" I said as I swung the club and it flew out of my hands into the koi pond. "Let's call it a day" he laughed walking over to me, my cheeks turning red as my eyes widened.

"You know I didn't think this would happen" I said laying on his chest, "I never expected it too, I don't regret it at all" he rubbed circles on my back. "I could honestly fall asleep right now" I yawned, "go ahead bebe" he kissed the top of my head. I smiled to myself and cuddled up against him more.

I woke up to pitch dark, checking the time it said 1:26am. Rafe asleep next to me, I felt his arm under me, it's probably was asleep from my weight. I slowly got up and went to the bathroom. "What am I doing" I said looking into the mirror, I felt bad about not telling my friends but I knew if I did then I could lose them. I was deep in thought, when a knock came from the door. "Hey you okay" His tired voice ran out, "uh yeah, yeah" I turned the light off and stepped out. "I'm kinda hungry though" I gave him puppy dog eyes, "let's go get some food then."

We drove around in his truck, with the windows down. Left hand free by alt J played in the background. He held my hand on the center counsel, my heart fluttered at this. "Waffle House" I screamed looking at the lit up sign, we ordered our food and drove back to his. We talked about nothing and everything, we turned on some music again and enjoyed the company.

He grabbed my hand as Adore you by Miley Cyrus came on, we danced as best as we could. Both of us were the worst, he spun me around and pulled me to him. I laughed and blushed for what seemed like the thousandth time today.

"I love you" he said, completely catching me off guard.

"what" I whispered, not believing a word he said.

"I love you." he smiled, I saw the look in his eyes telling me to trust him and I do. I stood on my top toes and kissed him.

"I love you too."
