Linda's POVIt was just a month into the second semester.
It was a beautiful day, the sun was just the right temperature and the sky had a nice combination of blue and white. I had just ended a class and I was packing my bag thinking of what to eat when I received Bryan's call."Hey boo. What's up?", I said after picking up.
"Are you busy?", He asked over the phone.
"No silly, it's lunchtime"
"Oh yeah. Good, let's meet. I'll buy you lunch"
"Really? I'm on my way"
Cutting the call, I finished packing my bag and went out.
We met at the school cafeteria.
After ordering our food, we sat by the window."Why did you call me out?", I started.
"Guess what", His eyes shone so bright as though he was into some sort of mischief.
"If that's the reason you called me out, you might as well just tell me", I replied starting to get very curious.
Bryan rarely had any gist. Which kept me wondering what was new this time."I asked Grace out", he replied, both his cheeks turning red.
I stared at him like he was telling the biggest lie ever.Like I said, Bryan and I had become very close friends. At some point in time, he had told me about this girl, Grace, who was majoring in History. He said he had been having a crush on her since sophomore but he was damn scared to ask her out.
"Are you serious? You have to be kidding", I stared at him still unable to believe my ears.
"I'm serious.", he replied.
"Looks like someone broke a jinx", I said sounding very thrilled.
"Yeah right", he answered me grinning from ear to ear.
There was a lot of excitement in his voice."You might as well start to give me the full story, don't leave out even a dot"
"You know I told you we both borrowed a course from Music", he started talking, his voice, eyes, the whole expression of his face and even the way he spoke showed he was getting really excited about the whole issue.
"We went for a kind of excursion today. It's kind of an assessment. It all started when coincidentally we were in the same group and then we got in the same bus, only to end up sitting beside each other. In one way we started talking, in another way we found out we had quite a lot in common. Talking to her was like a dream come true Linda"
Still smiling he continued.
"No doubt, we enjoyed each other's company all through the time, and just before we alighted from the bus, I asked her to dinner. And guess what? She said yes. I've never being so excited", he kept chattering on and on, excitement was written all over his face. I felt happy for him."Wow, that's so exciting. So what's your plan for tonight?", I asked.
"I'm still thinking about it, but I'm so confused about the sort of things she will like, that's why I thought to call you", he said looking worried.
"Don't be so funny. This isn't your first date by the way, you can work it out and you can decide to make her a delicious meal. There isn't a person in this world who wouldn't fall for your cooking.", I laughed replying him.
"You're sure about that?"
Always Bryan to want to be extra sure."I'm sure Bryan", I said and his phone began to ring. It was Steve.
Steve's POV
Things between Susan and I were going on really well. It was all evident that she meant it when she apologized. She made efforts to cover for all the hurt she had caused me. You could say I was falling in love all over again. She was such a darling and it was all so smooth. No wonder I never expected what was coming my way. No sane person would even expect that.
Bryan went for an excursion, he borrowed a course from music.
We had just finished a class when he arrived."Hey man", he said slapping my back with his hands.
He looked all excited and very different in some kind of good way."What's up with you? How was your excursion?"
"My excursion was fine, but something else is finer"
That sounded fishy.Looking at him as though he was some sort of criminal I asked,
"What have you been up to Bryan?""I asked Grace out"
I could swear I saw Bryan blush for a few seconds."Shut up man, you're joking"
"I'm serious Steve, I really did ask her out this time..."
He narrated the entire excursion to me. How they were in the same group, then the same bus, got talking and then he asked her to dinner just at the end of their trip. Out of shock, I stared blankly at him not even knowing what to say."Oh wow, I'm surprised. That's so cool. Where are you taking her?"
I ended up saying. As if just realising that, he said,
"Oh shit, I better call Linda"I shook my head as he dialed her number and as soon as he dropped the call. He left.
It was lunchtime but I didn't feel a but hungry. Also, Susan and I were supposed to eat when she came back from the mall. Having nothing else to do I decided to swim, so I headed to the swimming pool to cool off from the sun.
As I was getting to the entrance, my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I picked up after hesitating a while. Maybe it was just intuition but I felt something was wrong. That feeling wasn't wrong, because I was about to get the most shocking news of my life.
"Is that Mr Steve Jones?", a strange voice asked me.
"Yes. May I know who you are please?", I replied wondering what was up.
"Do you know Miss Susan Pearl?", she asked.
"Yes, she's my girlfriend", I replied, my voice was starting to shake, something was up. I could feel it. I could only pray silently that all was well.
"My name is Jessica, I'm a nurse calling from Welling Hospital, Miss Susan was rushed into the hospital thirty minutes ago, she was involved in an accident", she said.
Shit. I thought in my head. Not my Susan, please not my Susan.
"In an accident?", my heart was crushed. "I'll be there", I cut the call and dashed off to Welling hospital. As I ran, I couldn't but pray that she'd be fine. She had to be fine. We were only just starting all over.
"O God, save my Susan"
These were the only words that kept ringing in my head. Up until I got to the hospital.I really do appreciate you guys. For following through, I'm so happy and excited.
