Steve's POV

We landed safely in California. Amidst the rowdiness, I was lucky enough to find the driver my uncle had sent to pick me from the airport. In a matter of minutes, I was in a wine colored Sedan car riding down the quiet road of California. Lol. Quiet indeed.

Since the flight was a two-hour journey, I got there quite early during the busy hours of work. The driver took me straight to my uncle's house. Work for me was starting the next day, I had only that day to rest.

This wasn't my first time there, so I was familiar with the turns and curves of the road. We entered into the compound and I was happy to see those little trees and flowers that had always caught my eye. I couldn't wait to see my cousins too, Eva, Liam and Andrew

I strolled inside, alongside the maid that came to take my boxes in. She took me to a room and left.
The room was neat, painted in a light green colour. There was a normal sized bed, covered with a grey and black colored bed sheet. There was also a wardrobe and a small reading table beside it. I concluded that would be my room for the stay. I took a shower so I could change my clothes. I was still in a towel when I heard a knock on the door. I concluded it would be one of the maids since my cousins were not around. Eva and Liam had gone to work and Andrew was not back home from school yet. I put on a shirt and opened the door.

"Good morning." the pale faced plump lady in front of me greeted. "Your uncle would like to see you," she said. I nodded and she left.

After getting fully dressed, I went to my uncle's room.

"Good morning." I said after going into the room on my second knock.

"Good morning, Steve, Come in." I heard the voice I dreaded most in that house reply me. Antonia, my uncle's second wife.

I always wondered how my uncle fell in love with her. He married her after he divorced his first wife, Bianca. I didn't like Antonia for any reason. She was so saucy and sly. She always wanted everything to herself. One very greedy person she was. Of course, I never said that to her face. I wasn't the only ones who thought that, my cousins didn't like their step mother either.

Her younger sister, Vanessa was my uncle's assistant. She studied Geography and my uncle really cherished her. I could bet if I didn't agree to take over the business, he would have given it to Vanessa. Unlike her sister, she was so well mannered and really nice.

I closed the door behind me and moved inside the room. I saw my uncle seated on a wheelchair. The stroke affected only his legs, all he needed was someone to push his chair and he was good.

"How was your flight?" He asked, his voice sounded really faint.

"It was fine. I enjoyed the ride too"

"Amanda must have shown you to your room"

"Yes, she has"
I figured the maid who showed me to my room was Amanda.

"Alright. Take your time resting well today, also, let's have dinner together when your cousins are back"

"Okay uncle," I said and turned to leave the room.

"Steve," he called and I turned. "Don't forget to leave your phone"

I forgot. My uncle's number one rule. No phones. I was supposed to have full concentration on the business, so he always collected that one thing that caused distractions, my phone. I was allowed to call only the office or home. Sometimes it made me think my uncle was too strict, but I got to understand with time that it was all for the best. I dropped my phone on the table and left the room. Three months to go, without a phone.
