Four Years After.

Linda's POV

"Good morning," the matron, Mrs Evelyn greeted as I entered into the hospital.

"Good Morning ma'am," I greeted back as she smiled and turned to continue her business.

I strolled slowly to my office as one who was counting her steps. My heels making noise as they made contact with the tiles, calling the attention of those hospital workers who had resumed. I heard series of good morning and I waved back. I entered gracefully into the psychology department, waving at the nurses at the reception and then I finally entered into my office.

It was just my second week at JnK Hospital. It was two years after my graduation from the University. I had worked at a private hospital immediately after graduation but after getting a better offer from JnK, I transferred. Working as a clinical psychologist made me happy and fulfilled. I found joy in it and JnK made me feel better. Everyone around accepted me and made me feel at home. It was just my second week but it felt like my second year.

I wasn't seated yet when a nurse knocked on my door to inform me of a patient's arrival. The reason I got to work so early. I had scheduled a session with one of my patients for 7:30am.

"The guy is good at keeping appointment," I thought as I signaled to the nurse to let him in.

Work was usual that day. Making appointments for sessions, having series of sessions with patients. Having a tough time helping difficult patients and not getting enough time for rest. I even missed lunch trying to talk an old woman out of a depression that was gradually leading her to suicide. I closed later than usual. Phew, what was I saying, I was always leaving later than I was supposed to.

I walked out of the office as hurriedly as my legs could and entered into my car. Few minutes later, I was on the road to my house.

Although I worked in Texas, I didn't live with my parents. Of course they didn't even want me anymore. My house was a few blocks away from theirs. It wasn't such a big house but it was cosy enough. I parked in front of the house and came out of the car.

I entered my house tired, hungry and very worn out. I pulled off my clothes thinking of what to cook when my phone rang.

I picked it up and I heard the loudest screeching ever. I took the phone away from my ear and cussed under my breath as I heard the scream reduce. I put the phone back to my ear and talked.

"Damn Grace, why are you screaming?"

"It was a surprise," she shouted and once again I pulled phone far from my ears. Grace was such a naughty one when she wanted to be.

"Shit Grace, can you just calm down and stop shouting in my head? Will you?" I raised my voic  enough to make her calm down.

"Okay okay," she finally started to talk like a normal homo sapien (if they existed). "Bryan proposed." She said excitedly.

"Ahhhhhhhhh," now I was the one screaming my lungs out. "Geez lady, finally. Where are you?" I asked and anyone who saw me who'd have thought I was the one who just got engaged.

"I just got home, you're the first person I called. I couldn't keep it to myself," her voice was enough for me to know she was smiling as she spoke.

"Okay, I'm coming over," I said and was about to cut the call when my stomach rumbled to remind me of its emptiness. "Hey Grace, I just got back from work and I'm famished. Do you happen to have some food?" I asked.

"Of course, come over quick," she ordered and cut the call.

I took a quick shower and put on less heavy clothes, a slightly over sized white T shirt and a pink three-quarter jean. I walked into my car after making sure my door was locked.

Grace's house was two streets away. The reason I had to take my car. Grace squealed out of the house as soon as she saw my car pull up in her driveway.

"Lindaaaaaa," she ran down to meet me and I met her with a hug.

"Will you drop me down so we can talk? We saw yesterday." I eyed her playfully and she frowned.

After a lot of shrills and confusing explanations we finally got into Grace's house. Taking a seat on a single sofa I called to her,
"Now that you calm, gently tell me all about it."

She sat on the floor mat crossing her legs placing her hands on her knees.

"So, I just finished at the art gallery and then I received his call. We had an argument last night which made me ignored his call at first, but it kept ringing so I gave up and picked up his call." She paused to take a breath then continued. "And then he told me he'd like to apologize and I should wait for him. Out of annoyance, I grumbled and stamped my feet in the wait. After that... " she stopped and grinned at me.

"Oh God, Grace, don't leave me on a cliff hanger." I cried in anticipation.

"Ask me what happened," she grinned even brighter. I hated her at that moment.

"Damn Grace, what happened?" I muttered in surrender.

"I was standing outside my art gallery and then suddenly came the rain of ribbons all over. I turned and twisted to find out its source, but I couldn't. I had the door of my art gallery open. I flinched, I had just locked that door." she paused to tease me. I frowned and she continued. "Out came Bryan, looking all handsome and lovable. He didn't have to ask, I had forgiven him already. But he wasn't even there to apologize. He grinned at me and damn, he looked so handsome as he got on one knee and brought out a ring. Linda, I wanted to scream my heart out."

"Awwwwww," I smiled so stupidly.

"Please, you had to hear his voice when he said those words, 'Will you marry me?' she tried to mimick Bryan's voice.

"Tell me you teased him a little."

"Trust me boo. I stood looking at him and frowned. 'First tell me what you were doing in my art gallery' I asked. And then he was like he was there to be my knight in shining armor. That was it, I held out my hand and shrieked my yes as he slipped the ring onto my finger." she said holding her hand out to show me the ring.

I stared at the beautiful diamond ring on her finger blushing in happiness. "Took him so long. But I'm so happy, I can finally be your bride's maid and plan your wedding too." I commented in a excitement.

"Yeah right babe, I can't wait for us all to come together again." Grace said and I nodded in agreement.

"Us all, except Steve," I muttered but Grace was quick enough to catch my words.

"Lady, it's been four years since we last heard from him. If he wanted to be a part of us, he'd at least call." she stretched her legs looking at me with a scowl on her face.

"Okay, okay. But can I eat now, I'm starving." I complained.

She stood up and we went to eat.
