Sophia Marian in the side>>
Em's P.O.V.
After the chaos at the mall and having some time to regain our appetite, Sophia and I decided to stop to get food at our favorite Chinese Restaurant.
The fragrant aroma of soy sauce, ginger, and garlic wafted through the air as we waited for our food. Sophia insisted she wasn't hungry, though her stomach had growled loud enough to make me smirk. She stayed silent the entire ride home, staring out the window as the streetlights flickered across her face.
Once inside, the familiar creak of the front door gave way to the comforting hum of my quiet house. Without turning on the lights, I trudged upstairs, the soft thud of my bag hitting the floor the only sound breaking the stillness. I threw myself face-first onto my bed, the cool cotton sheets brushing against my cheek.
"My feet are killing me," I groaned, muffled by the pillow.
Behind me, I heard Sophia chuckle, the soft click of the light switch following. The sudden brightness burned my eyes through the sheets.
"You're such a drama queen," she teased, her voice light and teasing.
Rolling onto my back, I kicked off my shoes, relishing the moment my aching feet were freed. "Oh my gosh!" Sophia suddenly gasped, her voice sharp and urgent.
"What now?" I mumbled, propping myself up on my elbows. My gaze followed hers to the clock, and my heart dropped.
"Shit! We're going to miss the show!"
In a frenzy, we sprinted down the stairs, our footsteps thundering against the hardwood. We hurled ourselves onto the couch, the cushions sinking beneath us. I grabbed the remote, frantically flipping through channels until the screen lit up with familiar faces.
"Soph, we forgot our food," I muttered, grabbing a blanket from the loveseat and draping it over us.
Sophia groaned dramatically, stomping back up the stairs. I chuckled softly, adjusting myself deeper into the couch. The warmth of the blanket and the hum of the TV made me feel at ease.
For as long as I could remember, this had been our thing. Just the two of us. No big friend groups, no wild social lives—just marathons of our favorite shows and inside jokes that only we understood. Sophia wasn't just my best friend; she was my sister, my anchor. I'd protect her with my life if I had to.
Forty-five minutes passed in a blur, the TV pulling us deeper into the story.
"What the fuck!" Sophia yelled suddenly, throwing a pillow at the screen. "Are you kidding me?"
"Shut up, Soph! I can't hear!" I shot back, smacking her with a pillow of my own.
The tension in the room grew as the show reached its climax. The sound of dramatic music filled the air, our eyes glued to the screen.
Then—Ding-dong.
The doorbell rang, its sharp chime slicing through the room like a knife.
"Damn it!" we groaned in unison. We exchanged a look, eyebrows raised, before shifting into action.
"Rock, paper, scissors... shoot!"
"Ha! I win!" Sophia shouted triumphantly, shoving me toward the door.
I grumbled, dragging my feet as I peeled myself off the couch. The cold air from the hallway raised goosebumps on my arms as I shuffled toward the door, my eyes still trying to catch glimpses of the TV.
"Yeah, what do you want?" I said roughly as I swung the door open, irritation lacing my tone.
The night air outside was crisp and cool, carrying the faint scent of pine and wet leaves. But it wasn't the air that made my breath hitch—it was the figure towering in the doorway.
A low, menacing growl rumbled from his chest.
Before I could react, he yanked me forward, my nose colliding painfully with his chest—a wall of solid muscle. His body radiated heat, his scent a dizzying mix of earth and smoke. I tried to pull away, but his arms wrapped around me like steel bands, holding me immobile.
Panic surged through me, and I screamed, the sound echoing through the house.
I heard the pounding of footsteps on the wooden floor as Sophia rushed toward me. "Emmaline—" her voice was cut off with a gasp.
I twisted in the man's grip, desperate get away and I get a glimpse of Sophia. My heart sank as I saw her struggling in the arms of a tall, blonde man—the same one from the mall. His icy blue eyes burned with intensity.
"Mine," Blondie growled, his voice deep and guttural, sending chills down my spine.
The primal sound froze us both. Sophia's wide eyes filled with tears as she trembled violently in his grasp. The sight of her fear ignited a fury within me, my teeth clenching so hard my jaw ached.
I went still, forcing my body to relax. Slowly, I placed my hands on the chest of the man holding me, feeling the hard planes of muscle beneath his shirt. His grip loosened, just slightly, and I seized the moment.
With all my strength, I drove my knee upward, connecting hard with his stomach. He groaned, releasing me as he staggered back.
I didn't stop. Leaping onto Blondie's back, I yanked his hair with both hands. "Let her go!" I screamed, my voice raw.
Blondie howled in pain, dropping Sophia as he reached back to grab me. I clung to him like a leech, refusing to let go until another pair of hands wrapped around my waist, hauling me off.
I slammed my head backward, connecting with my new captor's face. He cursed and released me. Without missing a beat, I grabbed Sophia's hand, dragging her inside.
We bolted the door behind us, our breaths coming in frantic gasps.
"What do we do now?" Sophia whispered, her voice trembling.
"I don't know!" My mind raced, heart pounding in my ears.
We screeched as a thunderous bang rattled the door, the wood groaning under the force.
I motioned for Sophia to follow me, and we crept upstairs. My legs felt like lead, my pulse hammering with every step. Once inside my room, I shoved a chair under the doorknob and guided Sophia into my walk-in closet.
Sophia curled into a ball in the furthest corner beneath my hanging jackets, her body shaking violently.
I locked the door and crawled next to her holding her close. "It's going to be okay," I whispered, "I'll protect you. Mais il faut être fort." (But you must be strong)
Sophia nodded, taking deep, shuddering breaths.
The silence in the house was deafening, each second stretching into an eternity. Then—CRASH!
I could hear the wood shatter in my bedroom, making Sophia shriek. My took and deep breath and held it, waiting. It felt like forever, the silence deafening.
CRASH!
The chair flew across the closet and shattered almost of foot from us. A massive shadow figure filled the doorway, his broad shoulders heaving as his breath came in heavy, and growls rolling off him.
But it was his eyes—piercing, electric blue—that sent ice coursing through my veins.
