<<Jackson on the side (as Daniel DiTomasso)>>
Em P.O.V.
A loud, ear-piercing scream shattered through the air, jolting me awake in an instant.
I shot up straight, heart pounding, and swung my legs off the bed. The air was cool against my skin, the faint scent of something unfamiliar lingering in the room. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness and my head stopped spinning from rising so quickly, a sinking realization hit me—this wasn't my room. My room was a deep purple, cozy and filled with familiar things.
This place? It was nothing but pitch black, the walls swallowing what little light trickled in from the window. Not even the outline of furniture could be fully seen in the void.
Another scream split the air, more desperate this time. My blood ran cold. I knew that voice—it was Sophia.
Without thinking, I jumped up looking around desperately for a door, banging my toes against a dresser as I try to feel for the wall. I touched the smooth surface and blindly tried to feel around for a handle.
But before my hand could reach a doorknob, two massive hands wrapped around my waist, lifting me up as if I weighed nothing, and pulling my back into a chest as solid as stone.
The scent of cedarwood and something faintly sweet enveloped me, making my skin crawl.
"Where do you think you're going, kitten?" His voice, smooth as silk but laced with danger, purred against my ear.
In the faint glow of moonlight, I turned my head just enough to catch a glimpse of his face. It was Jackson—the same Jackson who'd pressed a cloth to my face and stolen my consciousness. His sharp features were partially illuminated my the moonlight barely coming through the curtains, his eyes were bright however gleaming like a predator's in the dark.
"Let me go!" I twisted and pushed against his iron grip, but it was like trying to move a mountain.
"Where's Sophia?! What did you do with her?"
He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that sent shivers down my spine.
"Don't worry about her," he said, voice strange yet casual. "She's probably with Edward. In his bed like you should be in mine"
My struggle paused for a split second as my brain tried to process his words. I glared up at him, my anger flaring hotter than my fear.
"No!" I shouted, resuming my futile pounding on his chest.
"You sick bastards!"
Jackson caught my wrists mid-swing, his grip firm but not painful.
"No," he said, his tone suddenly serious. "Do not worry Edward would never hurt her."
Somehow a part of me believed him and relief briefly swept through me, but it was quickly replaced by urgency.
"I need to see her," I said, my voice trembling with desperation.
"She's probably having a panic attack." My eyes searched his face in the darkness, begging him to understand.
Jackson frowned, confusion flickering across his features. "And why would she be—"
Another scream, raw and terrified, cut through the night. Jackson's head snapped toward the sound, his expression tightening. Even he couldn't hide his discomfort.
"Please!" I begged, my voice cracking.
"I need to calm her down. She having a panic attack and cant breathe, please before she passes out or worse" My throat closed up at the thought. I had to get to her.
Jackson hesitated, his jaw clenching. "Edward can calm her down," he said, though his voice lacked conviction.
"No, idiot!" I snapped, anguish overriding caution. "He is the reason she's panicking!"
His eyes darkened at the insult, but before he could retort, I pushed on, frantic.
"Please, I'll do anything. Just let me go to her." My voice dropped to a whisper. "I'm begging you."
For a moment, he stared at me, his face unreadable. Then, with a reluctant sigh, he nodded. The moment his grip loosened, I bolted.
Rushing to the door I swung it open and raced down the hallway. I didn't know where I was going but my legs carried me down the long corridor to a door at the very end.
I didn't even hesitant before throwing the door open.
Inside, Sophia was huddled in a corner, her small frame shaking violently. Her face was buried in her knees, her muffled sobs punctuated by gasping breaths. Edward hovered over her, his tall frame casting a long shadow that seemed to trap her further. His hands hovered awkwardly, unsure whether to comfort or retreat.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!" I shouted, my voice sharp and commanding as I shoved past him.
Sophia's head shot up at the sound of my voice, her tear-streaked face filled with a mix of hope and fear.
"Em?" she gasped, her voice barely audible between sobs.
I dropped to my knees beside her and pulled her into my arms. She clung to me tightly, her body trembling like a leaf in a storm. I stroked her hair, rocking her gently.
A growl ranged through the room as Blondie tried to come closer. I glared at him, daring him to take a step.
"Edward, you're scaring her." I looked behind him and Jackson was standing by the doorway. He stepped forward, his tone calm but firm.
Edward hesitated, his eyes looks hesitant and sad like he doesn't want to move away but he retreated to stand beside Jackson. I could see two other figures just at the doorway of the room, I recognized them as the twins from the house.
"It's okay, Soph. I'm here. I'm always here." I said holding her tight as I tried to shield her form prying eyes.
"I was so scared" she stuttered, "I-I thought it was - " her words came out barely audible between the harsh quiet sobs.
"Soph. I'm here for you." I whispered to her in her ear, "And I told you, that will never happen to you again. Not while I'm alive."
Her breathing began to slow, the gasps becoming steadier, more even. The room was silent except for the soft sounds of her sniffles and the faint hum of my own heartbeat.
Eventually, her grip on me loosened, her breathing slowing as sleep finally claimed her. I held her a little longer, waiting until her body relaxed completely.
With a sigh of relief, I leaned my head back against the wall, exhaustion washing over me. Sophia was safe—for now. But the fight was far from over.
