Entering the house that had seldom given him that warm and fuzzy feeling, he was sure this night would not improve that at all.
"Logan," Shira's sugary voice came at him, "you look good, son. What brings you to Hartford?"
Giving his mother a kiss on the cheek,he answered, "where's Dad? I just have a little business to discuss."
Just then, Mitchum's booming voice stated, "Logan, how are you? What brings you here?"
As Logan fixed himself a scotch, he answered, "I'm good Dad. I've got something I'd like to tell you and Mom."
"What is it, son?"
Logan reached for his phone and pulled up the picture of Rory and Fitz he had taken yesterday. Handing it to his father, he waited for the fall out.
"Isn't that Rory Gilmore? What is this? Is that her baby? Why would you show us this Logan?"
"Yes, that's Rory Gilmore and that baby is our son."
Shira took in a sharp breath and whined, "oh, Logan, no. What have you done?"
"So you two WERE seeing each other when I ran into you together in London," How old is this child and how do you know it's yours?," Mitchum questioned.
"Rory and I ran into each other about 3 ½ years ago in Hamburg. We would see each other when she was in London or I was in the states. She ended it when Odette moved in with me. I didn't like how we ended things and we said our final good-bye one night in New Hampshire. Rory had taken up writing a book. The book was about her life experiences growing up with her mother. I picked up a copy recently and discovered in the book that she had a child and it was probably mine. I flew into New York on Friday and confronted her. She admitted it is mine. He's 11 months old. That fits exactly with the timeline. His name is Richard Fitzwilliam Gilmore and Rory calls him Fitz."
"Are you named in the book, Logan?," Mitchum asked.
"She changed the names of the people, so my real name is not used. She said she wanted to protect our family."
"Look, Dad. I want to move back to New York. Rory doesn't want a father in and out of her son's life like she had experienced with her dad. You know I can handle running HPG and you have been talking about retiring anyway. I'm ready and I'm going to do this."
"Logan, you can't make that decision yourself. The board would have to approve you taking over."
"Dad, you can get that approved if you want and you know it. I'm going to be in my son's life on a regular basis."
Shira popped in with, "Logan, I just think we should have a paternity test before you go and get involved with that Gilmore girl again."
"For god's sake, Mom, that Gilmore girl is the mother of my child. Rory is a Hayden. You do remember that, don't you? She meets your damn society standards, even though I could care less. What I want is a relationship with my child."
"Logan, it's more than that. She turned down your marriage proposal. I know you had a hard time for awhile. I don't want to see you get hurt again."
"Mom, I can handle it. Rory and I are not looking to get back into a relationship. We are just wanting to find a way to co-parent our son."
"Look, I'm going to head to the airport. Dad, I want to be in New York permanently before June 28. That's my son's first birthday, by the way."
"Logan, that's less than six weeks. It's going to take much longer than that for the transition. I don't see how this can happen that soon."
"Dad, I do practically everything now that a CEO would do. You can make it happen. I'm not a kid anymore and I've certainly proved my worth to HPG. At 36 I know I can handle it and you do, too. I'm going to be back in a couple of weeks. You can meet your grandson then. I'll talk to you soon. Good-bye Mom." He knocked back the rest of his drink and swept out of the house.

Rory pulled up to her old home. It was always a safe place and warmed her heart to just be there.
As Fitz and I entered the house, I called out to my mom. "Hey, we're here."
"Daughter of mine—get in here so I can see my beautiful grand baby."
Lorelai took Fitz from Rory's arms. Snuggling his belly with her mouth, he giggled and she said, "such a pretty boy. You should have been a girl."
"MOM, he doesn't look like a girl."
"No, he doesn't look like a girl but he is just so pretty. He looks like Logan."
"Yeah, I know Mom. But, Logan is not pretty, he is handsome."
"Speaking of daddy Huntzberger. Tell Mommy all about what he thought of his boy. Spill it."
"He adored Fitz, of course. I made him watch me change his diaper, so he could handle it by himself one day. He played with him on the floor and watched him make a mess with his food. All the things that daddies do."
"And was Daddy a gentleman?"
"He certainly was. Only hugged me once and sneaked a kiss on the cheek when he left."
"So, no dirty deeds, huh?"
"I told you we weren't going there. We're trying to do the best thing for our child. Which reminds me, Logan did ask one time if he could kiss me. My response was I thought we should go to therapy. Would that therapist you and Grandma went to be good for us or do you think we should find like a marriage counselor or partnership therapist?"
"Therapy? Hmm, that's probably a very good idea for you and Logan. Let me find the number of that therapist and you could just call her. She might have changed careers or something though. Grandma and I might have pushed her over the edge. So, Logan agreed to do therapy?"
"Yeah, he did." Handing me the therapist's card, I said, "thanks, Mom."
"Well, how was he really?"
"He was Logan. Caring, polite and kind. He played so well with Fitz and fell in love with him instantly, of course. Fitz said 'da-da'. Logan was thrilled."
"Wow, he said 'da-da'. Our boy genius."
"I know it's really easy for them to say that as one of their first words, but he had only heard it a few times."
"Logan was off to tell his parents this morning. I'm glad he didn't ask me to go. But, you know, I better be telling Grandma. She might get word from someone. You want to go with me next weekend. You could take Luke, too."
"Oh, kid. I don't know."
"Mom, come on now. Grandma has mellowed a lot. She'll be thrilled that we're all coming. It'll just be overnight."
"Okay, then I guess I can stand it for one night," she whined. "I think I need ice cream to get prepared."
"Great. But, I'm the one that has to tell her it's Logan's baby."
"Yeah, but you know she'll blame it all on me."
Chuckling, I just shook my head at her. Picking up Fitz she was in her element with him. She loved to spoil him and Luke did, too. Every little thing he did was the world's best that had ever been done. He was a lucky little boy to have so much love. There was likely to be a few more folks who were going to fall in love with him. I just hoped it would be smooth sailing with his new grandparents.
A/N: I don't think people can really change so I haven't portrayed Mitchum and Shira much different in this story. Mitchum mellowed to Rory when Logan had been working in London. Mitchum is all about the business. Shira wanted Logan's wife to be a society wife and Rory was certainly not that. We all know Logan and Rory had great chemistry and it won't be long before they're at it again. Thanks for reading, voting and your comments.
