In my defense, I honestly could have handled everything so much better. But I was also known for fibbing. Some.
Eugene, Bryan, the girl with him, and a few surrounding tables were staring at me. Eugene and Bryan looked the most shocked. The girl kept eyeing me, like I was some sad animal.
Honestly I dug myself into a grave. I hope Eugene could help me out.
"You? Engaged? It's more believable that Godzilla is real then you engaged," Bryan snorted.
That made me so angry. Who was he to say that to me?
Before I could respond, I felt a cool metal circle slide onto my finger as Eugene slowly slid his hand into mine. I turned and looked at him. I glanced down and there was a pretty diamond ring, simple with a silver band, on my left ring finger. My eyes darted back to Eugene, filled with panic. How did he get a ring so fast. He winked at me and looked Bryan up and down.
"Hello. I'm Eugene Vision. I run Vision Corp. I am Alena's fiancé. It's a pleasure to meet you, uh, Brad was it?" He extended his free hand and smiled warmly. I knew he said the wrong name on purpose.
Bryan flushed and stood up, shaking Eugene's hand reluctantly.
"It's Bryan," he corrected.
"Oh my bad. I guess I misheard." No he didn't.
One thing about Bryan. He's an absolute dickwad. And I meant that in the meanest way possible. He had blonde hair that he usually kept gelled back. I was under the impression it was permanently like that. He had blue eyes that looked dead. I mean sure I guess he was attractive but in the 'I'm gonna abuse you and you can't do shit about it' type way.
The girl, well I should have realized who it was sooner. Marcy Bridges. She had blonde hair, obviously dyed because those roots were definitely real. She definitely had boob surgery because hers weren't real. She used to be an a-cup in tenth grade. No way those were real. She was dressed in a very short and very revealing dress covered in sequins. What was this? The early 2000's? Her hair definitely had too much hairspray and her makeup was definitely over the top. I don't understand how her pores are even breathing. You could see it caked on. And two shades darker than what she actually was.
Bryan and I broke up when we were nineteen. Fresh out of high school and I just moved to New York to get a job and do better for my dads sake. I had come home to surprise him one Christmas and walked into his place and found them having sex on the blanket my grandmother had made for me. Needless to say, I was glad that was the last straw. He was very abusive, mentally and physically. I still had some scars from him.
I turned and looked at Eugene. He had a cool expression on his face. He was so much more handsome than Bryan. And he was an upgrade in every way. I put my hand on his chest. I could tell he was about to pull a power move. It was a pissing contest.
"So, how did you two end up engaged? Last time I checked you didn't wanna be married," Bryan leaned across the chair and was so close to me I could feel his breath in my hair. I flinched and shied away from him. Being so close to him made me terrified.
"I didn't want to be with you. You cheated with Barbie bimbo over there," I said bluntly. Marcy wasn't even paying attention to us. She was too busy checking her makeup in a compact mirror.
"Oh come on, we had some fun times," he winked at me. I wanted to gag.
"No we didn't. You treated me like trash."
He leaned in closer. Before I could react, my chair suddenly was pulled across the table and I was suddenly next to Eugene. He casually put his arm around me.
