sunflower - an original poem

In a garden of flowers

You shined on her

Leaving me in the shadows

When my stem reached up to you

Sometimes I wish to not be a sunflower

And perhaps a rose

At least I'd have thorns

And perhaps your words wouldn't cut at me

Like gardening scissors

Placing me into a glass vase

To slowly die

Wilting

Until I'm wishing I'm not a sunflower

Or a rose

But a bird

So I can fly

Fly away from you

And graze the clouds

Soaring the skies

Freedom

I soak it in like rain

But it comes in a single drop

I promise tomorrow I'll attempt a not so pessimistic poem, this Covid-19 crap must be getting to me
