About And Practicing The Language: Stage 11 and 12

Stage 11:

Practicing The Langauge:

A. 

1. ego ad forum (contendo). ego sum candidatus: I hurry to the forum. I am a candidate.

2. tu Afro (faves). tu es stultus: You support Afro. You are stupid. 

3. ego Holconio (faveo), quod Holconius est candiadatus optimus: I support Holconio, because Holconius is a good candidate.

4. nos Holconio non (favemus), quod Holconius est asinus: We don't support Holconio, because Holconius is an ass. 

5. Clemens, cur tu ad portum (contendis)?: Clemens, why are you hurrying to the harbor?

6. vos Afro (favetis), quod vos estis pistores: You support Afro, because you are painters.

7. nos ad villam (contendimus), quod in foro sunt Holconius et amici: We hurry to the house, because Holconius and his friends are in the market. 

8. eheu! cur e foro (contenditis)? vos denarios meos habetis!: Oh dear! Why are you hurrying out of the market? You have my denarios!

B.

1. Quartus Sullae decem denarios dedit. Sulla (titulum) in muro scripsit: Quartus gives Sulla ten denarios. Sulla writes an advertisement on the wall.

2.  fur thermas intrabat. (mercator) eum agnovit: The thief enter the baths. The merchant recognizes him.

3. multi candidati sunt in foro. ego (Holconium) video: A lot candidates are in the market. I see Holconio.

4. ego ad portum curro. (ancilla) me exspectat: I hurry to the harbor. The slave girl waits for me.

5. hodie ad urbem contendo. in amphitheatro sunt (leones): Suddenly, I hurry to the street. There are lions in the amphitheater. 

6. rhetor est iratus. rhetor (pueros) exspectat: The teacher is angry. The teacher waits for the boys.

7. feminae sunt in taberna. mercatores feminis (stolas) ostendunt: The women are in the shop. The merchants shows the stolas to the women.

8. postquam Holconius et amici Grumionem ceperunt, quinque (denarios) rapuerunt: After Holconio and his friends took Grumio, also grabbed his money.

C. 

1. Marcus (Afro) favet, quod candidatus dives est: Marcus supports Afro, because Afro is a rich candidate. 

2. "minime!" Quartus (frati) respondit. "vir nobilis melior es quam vir. dives (Holconio).":"No!." Quartus responded to his brother. "

3. fratres dissentibant. Quartus, postquam Sullam quaesivit, (scriptori) decem denarios dedit: The brothers argued. Quartus, after looked for Sulla, he gave the sign-writer ten denarios. 

4. Sulla Marco titulum ostendit. " placetne (tibi)?" rogavit Sulla.

5. "(mihi) non placet," respondit Marcus: "It is not ok with me," responded Marcus.

6. Sulla titulos alios in muro scripsit. hi tituli (candidatis) Afro et: Sulla wrote another sign on the wall. These signs are for Afro and the candidates.

7. Sulla (fratribus) titulos ostendit. "placetne (vobis)?": Sulla gave the signs to the brothers. "Is this okay with you two?"

8. "placet (nobis)!" clamaverunt Marcus et Quartus: "It is okay with us!" yelled Marcus and Quartus.

Stage 12:

Practicing the Language:

A. 

1. a. Iulius Caecilium rogavit, " (audivistine) sonos?": Iulius asked Caecilius, "Do you hear that sound?"

b. Caecilius Iulio respondit, "sonos (audivi)." Caecilius responded to Iulius, "I hear the sound." 

2. a. "Marce! Quarte! num in villa (mansistis)?": "Marcus! Quartus! Are you staying in the house?"

b. "minime! in villa non (mansimus)," clamaverunt Marcus et Quartus: "No! We aren't staying in the house," yelled Marcus and Quartus.

3. a. Caecilius amicos rogavit: "(vidistisne) Metellam?": Caecilius asked his friends: "Have you seen Metella?"

b. "Metellam non (conspeximus," responderunt amici: "We haven't seen Metella," responded the friends.

B. 

1. quid tu sensisti? (What do you feel?)

a. ego tremores sensi (I feel tremors)

2. vosne timebatis? (Are you afraid?)

c. nos non timebamus (We aren't afraid)

3. quid tu amisisti? (What did you give to your friend?)

a. ego picturam pretiosam amisi (I gave my friends an expensive painting)

4. cur vos ex urbe festinavistis? (Why did you hurry out of the city?)
c. nos festinavimus quod perterriti eramus(Bishop, because there is a fluffing volcano erupting in there! ((We hurried from the city because we are terrified!)))

5. vosne ad portum contendebatis? (Did you hurry to the harbor?)

b. nos ad portum contendebamis (We did hurry to the harbor!)

C. 

1. nubem mirabilem spectabamus sed non timebamus, (laribus) sacrificium fecimus: We watch the strangle cloud but are not afraid, made an offering to the household gods

2. Iulius, postquam in templo respiravit, (Clementem) gratias egit: Iulius, after recovering in the temple, thanks Clemens. 

3. Clemens Iulio (viam) ostendit: Clemens hurries through the street to Iilius

4. Caecilius, postquam Holconius de Metella nihil curavit, (Holconium) non favit: Caecilius after Holconius did nothing to take care of Metella, does not support Holconius. 

5. Holconius cum servis ex urbe fugiebat. "promittitne dominus (nobis) libertatem?" servi sibi dixerunt: Holconius runs away from the city with the slave. "The master promised freedom to us?" The slave asked himself. 

6. "minime! Holconius de villa curat. (vos) libertatem non offert.": "No! Holconius has taken care of the house. You are not offered freedom."
