When I opened my eyes and turned over in my futon to see if Kadzuki was on her own, which was directly next to mine. Which she wasn't and last night's events came flooding back to me.
After my encounter with the creepy men and Sanemi last night, I came back to the house to give Kadzuki her hairpin. Unfortunately, by the time I got back she was already fallen asleep and I didn't think it would be a good idea to wake her up after such a long day of traveling. So instead I just laid it next to her futon while she was sleeping and left a note so she knew it was her's.
I sat up and looked over her futon to see if the hairpin was still there... It wasn't.
I was kind of upset that I didn't get to see her face when she saw it but I can only imagine and be happy.
I looked out the window and noted that it was early morning. The sun hasn't even tried to peek over the horizon yet, leaving the black blanket to cover the town.
I sighed while getting up off the futon to slip on my sandals and fix my h/l h/c that was disheveled due to tossing and turning in my sleep. Laving large knots and puffs hair sticking out in every direction.
I walked over to a small desk sitting in the corner of the room to pick up the brush that was laying there from the night before. Checking for any hair, that wasn't mine, before brushing out the tangles. Careful not to rip out any strands.
I let my delicate fingers run through the soft h/c locks, checking for any leftover tangles and frizz while brushing. A peaceful feeling washing over me as carefully looked at myself in the window reflection. My brushing soon came to a slow stop as I stared at my reflection, gazing at my h/c hair cascading down my shoulders. My fingers still tangled gently in the soft fibers.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw a red blur paper behind me in the reflection of the window. Sweat shooting down my face as I quickly spun around with the brush in hand, ready to smack the devil out of whatever was behind me.
"Oh!" Kadzuki said looking at me with wide eyes. "You're awake! Good! We have to get going before the sun rises! Come on, don't drag!" She piped up cheerily, smiling at me with the smile the Rengoku family was well known for.
I gave a sigh of relief when I realized it was her, placing my hand on my chest to get my heart to get my beating breathless heart to calm down. I looked back up to look at Kadzuki, my e/c eyes lighting up noticing a sparkling item in her hair. Instead of her normal l black bow adorning her hair, I noticed the hairpin had taken it's place instead. Shining brightly and vibrantly against her blonde and red hair.
I beamed silently to myself as I made sure my hair was okay to go and that I had cleaned the brush before following the taller female out the door.
We went out a side entrance and instead of going out to the main street, we took some back alley's to quietly get to the small forest surrounding the old and falling apart palace. A thick fog hanging over the forest menacingly, but all the same as alluring. Like it's calling to us.
Luring us further and further towards the once brilliant amazing structure.
The forest was so dense and isolated that the only thing you could see were the trees right in front of you and the top of the palace peeking over the top of the fog. The only things that could be heard were the snapping of twigs and crunching of leaves under our heavy feet.
Every so often you could hear one of us release a heavy breath that almost seemed to echo through the isolated forest. "Geez, what a creepy place..." I mumbled out, taking quick glancing at all of our surroundings.
"Tell me about it..." Kadzuki responded back as she gripped the straps of my basket on her shoulders tightly while walking next to me. "Even though this fog would probably block out the sun for you... I still want to hurry so we won't have to worry about it at the palace..." After she said that I could see her shiver slightly like she was shaking off her creeps and started walking faster.
