(23) Heroes

"I wish to thank you for your bravery and service. Even after the way you have been treated you still risked your lives to save those who can't save themselves." the president finished up her speech.

It was almost a full year since they had exposed mayor Thomas and saved the president. They had saved their town and a few other cities around the country as well.

The president even made sure that the lab at the top of the mountain was shut down and turned into the new base for the Guardians.

Some of the soldiers were given the job of working along side the Guardians including Matthew, Markus and Carlos who still weren't as close to their daughters as they used to be.

Chloe, Stacie, Aubrey, Amy, Ashley, Jessica, Benji and Cedric were the only ones other than their parents that were allowed to go into the new base with all access passes since they were part of the team. Just not on the field unless required.

As soon as the president had finished her speech she gave the doctor a box of medals since all the teens were back home having some well deserved fun at the lake.

"Are you the only one here because you're the adult or because you're the reason they have powers?" the president asked as soon as they were away from the press.

"No, I'm actually the only one here because the kids deserve a break. They work really hard especially since they have to balance school as well."

"Well that was very thoughtful of you Cedric." the president smile.

"Thank you very much Ruby." Cedric smiled.

.........Back at Echo Bay.......

"Do you think the president actually bought your grandfather's story about wanting to give us a break?" Beca asked Benji.

"I think so, the man is really convincing." Benji smiled.

"If he has a crush on the president, why doesn't he just tell her instead of telling us to stay behind so he can tell her he's giving us a break?" Aubrey asked.

"Do you think if  he asked the president out on a date she'd just say yes?" Jesse asked.

"It wouldn't hurt to ask." Aubrey shrugged.

"Can we please go to the lake now?" Emily asked.

"Sure. Let's go get dressed first." Beca said before they all went to change into their swim suits.

As soon as they got to the lake they jumped in the water. After their swimming they had a picnic. They talked about their adventures and school.

After that they separated and went back home. Emily went over to Stacie's house while Beca went to Chloe's.

"Hi, Linda." Emily smiled as they walked into the house.

"Hey, girls. How was your day?" Linda asked.

"It was fun. Where's dad?" Stacie asked.

"He went out with his friends and I'm also leaving for the night so you two will be home alone until he gets back later tonight." Linda said before going upstairs.

"Sweet, we get the whole house to ourselves. What do you feel like doing tonight?" Stacie asked.

"Can we make hot chocolate, watch a movie then cuddle in your bed?" Emily asked.

"Anything for my beautiful girlfriend." Stacie said before giving Emily a sweet kiss.

They then made their hot chocolate and popcorn before watching their movie.

After their movie they headed up to Stacie's room. They cuddled for a few minutes before their phones buzzed and played trumpets making Stacie groan.

"Come on get up. We have to go to work." Emily said with a smile.

"I don't wanna get up!" Stacie whined.

"Please." Emily pleaded before kissing Stacie's cheek.

"You have to be a little more convincing than that." Stacie smirked.

"You're ridiculous." Emily said before kissing Stacie who immediately stood up.

They then drove to the top of the mountain. When they got there they got their motion debrief.

...........Three hours later...........

"Ouch! That hurts!" Emily yelled at Benji.

"Well sorry but I have to clean the cut with alcohol or it will get infected." Benji said as he cleaned Emily's cut.

"It still hurts." Emily pouted.

"You're so cute when you pout." Stacie said as she hugged Emily from behind.

"You okay Em?" Aubrey asked.

"Fine. It's just a small cut." Emily smiled as Stacie kissed her now cleaned up cut.

"You guys did great out there." everyone looked at the door to see the president with Benji's grandfather following her like a lost puppy.

"Thank you madam president." Beca smiled.

"Please call me Ruby. I actually came here to tell you that I have good news. We just finished making you guys a new base in Miami, Florida. We also just made  you each new cars."

"Now that is awesome. We can go to Miami for vacation now!" Amy yelled.

"You guys deserve it. You can leave now if you want. Don't worry about school I'll handle it." Ruby smiled.

"Cool! Let's go get packed!" Emily yelled before pulling Stacie out the room.

..............Three days later........

"The beach is so beautiful." Emily smiled.

"Yeah but you'll always be more beautiful to me." Stacie smiled.

"Get a room before you rot my teeth you two." Chloe smiled at the couple.

"Whatever." Stacie smiled before sticking her tongue out at the redhead.

They spent the day at the beach before going back to their new base with a view of the ocean to have dinner.

After dinner they all went to their rooms except for Beca who stayed outside to look at the stars from the deck.

"Hey, what are you doing out here?" Beca looked behind her to see Emily standing with a glass of water.

"Just thinking about how far we've come in the past year. How much you guys have made me a better person. How you guys became so close to my heart."

"You know, even though we never chose these powers I'm glad that you were there with me the whole time. You guys are my family and I'm glad with all the ups and downs that you guys always be with me. Even though some people call us freaks, I know now that it's fine because I'm not like everyone else. I'm unique and I love it." Emily smiled.

"When did you grow up? You're out here with all these wise words." Beca smiled.

"I got it all from you. You, my mom and your dad. My first family." Emily smiled before hugging Beca.

"Awww. That's so cute." Chloe said before everyone gave the two girls a hug.

"How long have you guys been standing there?" Beca asked.

"Long enough to know that you love us shawshank." Amy said.

"I do not." Beca pouted.

"Just say it babe we all already know it." Chloe smiled.

"Fine. I love you awesome nerds." Beca smiled with tears in her eyes.

"We love you too Beca!" Everyone yelled before going back to the hug.

Life wasn't always easy for them since some people still hated them but as long as they had each other they always had the courage to be HEROES.
