We were surrounded by utter darkness, the city lights having disappeared hours ago. I'd fallen asleep just to be woken up by a highly alert Ruel as the car halted. I had no clue where I was, what we were doing here or why we were here. I just knew that Ruel was in some deep shit, his eyes almost animalistic in panic as he gazed at me intently.
"You're going to need to stay in the car" Ruel drawled winding down his window as someone approached. And then Prince Charles was looking down at me from Ruel's window, his jet black hair silver from the moonlight. He looked nearly identical to Ruel just half the height and double as muscular.
"You're even better looking in real life" I blurted out, my drunk words slurring slightly. Prince Charles smiled charmingly as Ruel frowned slightly.
"And who's this Ruel?" He asked, his voice clipped and each word articulate.
"I had to take her with me... I couldn't just leave her in the middle of nowhere"
"Well she's going to arrive soon" Prince Charles's gaze flicked to me in concern "And I don't think it's a good idea to get her involved" He gestured to me with his chin.
Ruel's eyes darkened further as he clenched his jaw.
"She's staying in the car. She's drunk anyway I doubt she'll remember a word tomorrow "
"I'm not drunk!" I insisted crossing my arms angrily
Prince Charles chuckled and Ruel's lips twitched slightly.
"Honey, trust me you are. Now try sleep a bit, I'll be back soon" Ruel said gently before Prince Charles opened the door for him and I was left alone in the car, in the dark without another word said to me. And like hell was I going to sleep. This was my time to figure out what the fuck 'royal matters' meant. Who the 'she' and 'her' they always referenced was. Twisting in my seat, I watched as Ruel followed Prince Charles towards a brightly lit house, the moonlight shimmering against their silhouettes. Someone ran out of the house and greeted Ruel with a hug before ushering them both in. The heavy door of the house slammed shut behind them.
"For fuck's sake" I muttered trying the door handle. Locked, of course.
"Can you please let me out" I asked the driver politely. He was looking at me in slight irritation.
"I've been given orders not to"
"And why's that exactly" I snarked flinging myself against the seat. When Ruel came back I'd kill him. I'd kill him.
"These royal matters..." The driver explained "are private. They can't be leaked to the public"
"Do you know what's going on?"
"I know barely a thing, just the minimum details" The driver said
"And don't even try press me for the details" He grumbled as I opened my mouth. As he turned back to face the front, I flipped him off frustration itching through me. Leaning my head against the window, I stared out into the darkness trying to make out the shapes moving around through the windows of the house. Nothing happened. For an hour. And then a car pulled up slightly in front of where we were parked, the tail lights illuminating the surroundings. In sync, Prince Charles and Ruel jogged up to the car, speaking in rapid French to the passenger through the windows. Who the hell was in that car? As if Ruel knew I was watching, his gaze flicked up to mine and he winced slightly. I knew he'd rather have me as far away as possible from whatever this was... yet here I was, sticking my nose into his business. Like always. Because I was insensitive and so fucking curious. And it wasn't a good combination to have.
"Who's in the car" I asked the driver, watching as they continued their urgent discussion, Ruel's arms moving like Bella's did when she was agitated.
