Just a Friend

Christine Summer

You’re sitting next to me,

Oblivious of what you’ll see,

While I’m dying inside,

To tell you what I feel.

Make your way into the room,

Why do you look so cool?

While I’m jumping inside,

‘Cause you just made my day when you smile,

Making me look like a fool.

Trying to make a conversation,

I lost my concentration,

Figuring out what you said,

Should I smile, should I laugh?

‘Cause I’m losing my mind.

I don’t understand how you can make me smile,

With just one word,

I want to make you mine,

One hello, followed by a quick goodbye.

You see right through me,

Like I’m invisible in your eyes,

But I tried to capture your attention,

Just a small deliberation,

See me for once.

She might be better,

She might be smarter,

She might be richer,

And she might be prettier,

But I love you better.

I’ll listen to your voice say my name,

Like it’s the most beautiful thing,

And I’ll laugh to your jokes,

Like it’s the funniest thing.

You can cry on my shoulder,

And tell me your problems,

Just a friend, that’s what I am,

But I’ll never leave you.

Nothing sucks more than that moment when that person tells you that you are going to be friends, like it's the most natural thing. But it's not, 'cause you like him. And he acts like he doesn't know and all you wanted to do is scream it in his face.

Christine
