Believe me when I say…

Christine Summer

They say ‘tis butterflies fluttering in the tummy,

When you see that one person that made you feel funny,

But for you, it feels like a mob of people in a party,

Or a bunch of uppity dinosaurs on a rally.

Remind me again how you made me feel so empty,

And yet overflowing with feelings so perfectly,

Describes how remarkable you can make me see,

That I’ve been obviously bewitched by thee.

Hear me scream your name with so much clarity,

In the silence of the night, just let it be,

Genuine feelings of devotion for thee,

Will you kindly reciprocate it please, for me?

I will not ask for the stars or the moon,

Neither do I need a silver spoon,

Just your affection; but did I spoke to soon?

To look askance at my feelings from runes.

Hear ye, my dearly beloved boy,

I will not take your heart as a toy,

But cherish it with so much joy,

You need not to act so coy.

They call it a crush, but what do they know?

They said the world was flat, wasn’t it a wrong blow?

Suppose I tell you it was love, would you think me low?

Of jumping into conclusions with my feelings in tow?

It’s true; never doubt my feelings, my dear,

If I could ever stand to something I know that’s clear,

I could phrase my feelings, just wait ‘till you hear,

How my heart pounds whenever you’re near.

So, what do you say to my litany of words?

Did you feel the jolt it did to both our worlds?

If you didn’t feel the same, my heart, why did you hold?

With your iron grasp, acting so bold.
