You walked inside the house, searching for Jungkook when you suddenly saw Haneul run down the stairs, with a tear streaked face.
Without noticing you, she rushed past and out the doors while you were debating to run after her until you saw Jungkook descending down the stairs later.
He looked at you with eyes so blank and broken, you pulled him towards a room which looked like a guest room and locked the door.
Then you turned around and saw him sitting on the bed lifelessly looking down towards his lap while you walked to the bed and sat beside him.
You put your arms around his shoulders and spoke in a soft voice.
"Jungkook, tell me what's wrong."
He was silent for a while, then suddenly, you saw something drop from his face.
It smeared his pants and then you noticed that he was crying.
You pulled him into your embrace as he placed his head on your shoulder and started crying while you caressed his head.
"I.... I lost her hyung." He sobbed out painfully as you slowly rubbed his back and shushed him.
"She gave up on me..... on us..... and I couldn't do anything about it." His voice held a lot of sorrow and regret which had him aching for him.
You couldn't say anything and just decided to let him cry out some more while rubbing circles on his back slowly until he calms down.
You both were in the position for a while until he finally pulled away, but still looking down, sniffling a little bit.
"Now Jungkook, tell me why?" You asked the question that has been running around your head ever since you saw the necklace around Haneul's neck.
He was silent and was still staring at his lap while you waited.
"It's for her safety hyung. I can't risk her safety for my happiness." He spoke out after a while and your eyes scrunched in confusion.
"What do you mean Jungkook?" You asked quite unsure.
He sighed and turned his body to face the door before placing his elbows on his knee and then placing his head on his hands.
"I didn't think it was that serious at first. I thought it would all be over after a while but no, the problem got deeper than it was." He continued explaining while you just listened to him silently.
"Haneul's father was the most hardworking man I have ever met. My family knows that, Haneul knows that and the whole town knows that. Everyone even thought he would win the election for mayor of the town. But on the day I went back for Haneul's birthday, his business in Busan experienced a huge recession that no one knew how it happened."
Your eyebrows raised in surprise, wondering what that has to do with anything.
"My dad tried his best to help him get on track which succeeded but he also suspected that it wasn't just any recession. Someone was the cause of it. Someone tried to sabotage his business and his campaign for election for mayor."
He continued explaining and that had you momentarily shocked.
"Haneul didn't know of this and neither does her mom. Only her dad and my family. We found the one who tried to sabotage Haneul's father business and met with the men who told us that it was an order from someone who was also running for Mayor."
He was now sitting upright and turned towards me.
"We wanted to keep an eye on the person and found out he has a daughter which was Jo Yuri. I pretended to date her, without anyone knowing, just to spy on her father, which I didn't think would take long but she decided to follow me to Seoul to attend the university."
"I never wanted to introduce you guys to her because she wasn't the one, but I had no choice, I had to keep up this facade for Haneul's dad, after everything he had helped MY family with. My own family doesn't know that I'm doing this. They all believe I'm with Haneul right now."
You nodded understandingly and patted his back when you saw tears forming in his eyes again.
"I was only to date her till the election but the problem worsened when Haneul's dad lost the election and also Haneul moving to Seoul. I did not expected it at all. But the worst wasn't that."
Tears fell down rapidly now and he hiccuped as he finally looked up at me.
"Yuri's father won the election for mayor and now Yuri is the daughter of our town's mayor." Your eyes widened at what he said.
"Her father tried to sabotage Haneul's father even before the election. Now with him being mayor and having the power, who knows what more he can do to their family. So there is no way I can break up with Yuri or else, he'll go after Haneul and her family because I broke his daughter's heart."
He finally sobbed out and you frowned at him sadly at the trouble he's going through.
All this just for the safety of the person he loves.
How can we fix this Jungkook?
You thought painfully seeing him deeply broken, unable to do anything to fix it.
