A short nap of an hour was truly sufficient for Aslan.
Hunger was killing him.
Thats what broke his deep slumber basically.
He got out of bed with the expectation that dinner must be ready by now.
The ever worsening climate was hopelessly showing its magic outside.
Storms,winds,thundering and lightning....to be precise.
Sighing deeply at the thought of what had happened just a few hours ago outside in the rain,he washed his face and headed downstairs.
Aliyah was cooking dinner in the kitchen.
Aslan sat himself on one of the kitchen stools.
He could see Aliyah's long black hair reaching at her elbow level.
A light blue apron tied to her waist.
"Hows Zara?" Aslan asked her.
"She's fine. She won't join us for dinner though.Too weak to even move out of the room." she replied in a monotone.
"And...Zayd?"
"He said he'll acompany Zara and also help her drink some broth I cooked for her." Aliyah spoke as she served some steamed fish on their plates.
She too pulled out a stool and sat down to have dinner.
It was quite awkward at first, since only the two of them were having dinner and no one was speaking a word.
Aslan was controlling himself from bombarding her with the ten thousand questions on his mind about what had happened earlier in the day.
Then all of a sudden, she kept her fork and knife down and stared at him with a bored expression.
Her blue devilish eyes showing a dark and ruthless
expression void of any emotion."What?" Aslan asked looking at her a little embaressed.
"You very well know 'what'." she replied with the same disinterested expression.
"Eh...haha..umm..was I that obvious?" he asked her embaressed and scratched the back of his head.
"Obvious.Yeah." she spoke,maintaining a straight face throughout.
"Don't hesitate, ask what you want. There's no point in hiding it anymore as it is." she heaved a sigh.
"Hey...I'm just curious.Although I won't bother you since you seem tired.So....maybe we'll talk about this some other time."
"Sure."she said with a light shrug and cleared their plates.
Aslan followed her near the basin and took the dishes from her.
"I'll do the dishes...since you cooked diner,I should atleast help with these."
"Ugh...no need.I'll do them."she spoke in denial and took the dishes back from him.
He took his dish back from her and recieved a death glare.
"Didn't I say I'll do them? I don't need your help."
He ignored her and washed his own dish.
"Whatever. Can't I even wash my own dish please?...I feel guilty seeing someone just work for me,you know?" he placed the dish upside down to dryup on the kitchen platform and wiped his hands to a towel handed to him by Aliyah.
Thats when the two of them realized that they were standing a little too close to eachother in the crammed up space near the kitchen sink.
Very, very awkwardly then Aliyah took back the kitchen towel from him and put it away on the counter to dry.
Meanwhile Aslan stood watching her with a mildly bemused expression.
He looked away from her slightly flushed face and stared out in the kitchen window.
Something odd had caught his attention.
"Whats that?" he removed his hand which was buried in his track pant pocket and pointed at a weird shape on the tree outside in the backyard visible through the kitchen window.
Aliyah too peeped outside to see the weird thing sitting on a tree branch.
"Its...umm...I..don't know."she looked away.
The same distant expression on her face from before.
Aslan sighed.
"Come on.You don't need to hide it anymore.I already witnessed this 'magic' stuff earlier.Just tell me what that thing is,and I won't bother you for more."
"You know what?....You are quite patient actually. If I were in your shoes,I would have killed someone out of curiosity till now." she looked at him with an amused and impressed expression.
He gave an awkward laugh at that.
"Well....you could say that.I've had to be this way since childhood. Even my gran used to hesitate to tell me somethings."
"It must've been tough..."she said sympathetically.
"Yeah...feels like people don't trust you."
He instantly regretted what he had just said.
"I...um..no...I mean, I didn't want to blame you...I just-"
"Its okay.I understand.I know and you also know, that we don't have trust issues here. Its just.....just that we people are just..."she trailed of.
A worried expression on her face and gaze lingering down on the floor.
"Are you sleepy?" she asked him out of nowhere.
"Um..well...no?" he asked uncertainly.
They both had slept enough the entire day and the night was still young.
"Then lets go up on the terrace.I have something to tell you."
