Chapter 7

Naalimpungatan ako nang nakarinig ako ng pag-andar ng sasakyan.

Mabigat ang mga matang tumayo ako at lumapit sa bintana. Bahagyang nakabukas ang blinds kaya tanaw ko ang pag-ilaw ng sasakyan ni Leyton at pinanood itong lumbas ng gate bago humaharurot na umalis.

Kunot-noong sinipat ko ang wall clock. It was 1am in the morning, saan siya pupunta? I realized, I've only been asleep for almost an hour.

Bumalik ako sa kama at humiga.Unang gabi palang matapos kaming maikasal ay nilayasan na niya agad ako. Mapait na natawa ako. Studying profusely and avoiding boys the entire twenty-one years of my life, and here I am. In a loveless marriage. Caged and alone.

I closed my eyes, lack of sleep making my eyes burn. I slept only to wake up again.

I squinted at the clock and learned that it was almost seven in the morning. I heard some noise downstairs.

Tumayo ako sa kama at sinuklay ang buhok gamit ang kamay ko. Pumasok ako ng banyo para maghilamos at mag-toothbrush bago lumabas at nagsimulang bumaba ng hagdan ng nakapaa.

I walked slowly, my feet against the cold wooden floor. Napatigil ako nang nakarating ako sa sala kung saan kitang-kita ang kusina at ang babaeng nakatalikod habang nagbabatil ng...itlog?

I gaped at the scene in front of me.

She was tall and thin with pale skin that almost looked shiny under the sun rays peeking through the glass doors on the left, leading to a patio.

Naninikip ang dibdib na pinanood ko siya. She hums, her body in a baby pink nightgown moving gracefully around the kitchen with familiarity and it was obvious it was not her first time here.

She turned her head as if feeling my presence and she looked....stunning. It was almost unfair someone could look like her.

Napapahiyang umiwas ako ng tingin. My eyes collided with Leyton who was casually leaning against the wall, his eyes looking at my face intently. He was wearing a pair of white sweatpants and a plain blue shirt. It was my first time seeing him wear something so ordinary. He looks handsome, too. Damn him.

Dahan-dahang pinasadahan niya ng tingin ang katawan ko bago binalik iyon sa aking mukha. His eyes burned in amusement and... hunger?

My eyes widened when I realized what he just witnessed. He saw me watching the beautiful girl in his kitchen and probably saw how I looked at her with green eyes.

Namumula ang mukha na sinamaan ko siya ng tingin. Baka akalain niya na nagseselos ako!

But, how dare he?

And to think, iniisip ko pang makipag-usap sa kanya para makipag-ayos. Only to find this? Her in his kitchen?

Napaismid ako nang binigyan niya ako ng nanunuyang ngiti.

Naputol ang tingin ko sa kanya nang biglang nagsalita ang babae.

"Hi," nakangiting bati nito. "Are you Kristina?"

She was even more beautiful up close, the only imperfection on her was her slightly bunny teeth but even those looked endearing.

I gave Leyton an unsure glance before looking at the woman.

"Yes," I answered carefully.

She was in front of me before I could blink and before I could say anything, she was pulling me to.... a hug?

Binitawan niya ako bago hinawakan sa kamay.

"I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to the wedding," her face apologetic. "Stupid flight delay. Kakarating ko lang kaninang madaling araw." paliwanag niya.
