There is a very fine line between consciousness and unconsciousness and Sarah was standing on it! Her heavy left leg was slowly tipping over to the former. Her brain was slowly losing the fog even as her limbs were simply too heavy to assist in any way. Her heart sat uncomfortably in her chest, as if it would have ran away had the ribs not have been standing like heavily armed bodyguards before it! It beat as uncomfortably as it sat. Helplessness squeezed her throat as her mind came to be, tears slipped from under her closed lids until slowly her body started moving.

She needed water, her throat was drier than the Sahara desert and her tongue felt like sandpaper. She slowly opened her teary eyes to only close them because the room was abnormally bright. She opened them again and looked around. The curtains were drawn but the lights were switched off, what time is it? She was alone in her big bed that she initially loved, something had changed, something big happened she just couldn't place her finger on it. She looked around again to see a beautiful portrait of a girl in dreadlocks to her left. Vincent's younger sister had given it to her as a birthday gift last month!

Vincent! The police, the confession! Memories rushed all at once into her head and she closed her eyes, almost as if she was in pain. What happened after I told my family what I planned? She wondered. She remembers calling the officers handling the case, Miss Smith and Mr Ndlovu, everything after that was blank. She tried to dig deeper but she came out empty handed still, it was as if her memories were wiped out, if there were any memories at that. What is going on with me?!

When she could move her body finally, she shakily reached for the glass of water on her nightstand, before she could drink it she saw a note. It read:

Take some pills for the headache, after you have eaten.

Love, Grandma

The handwriting was too neat to be her grandmother's but she brushed that little detail aside, maybe she got someone to write it for her. Her stomach growled as her eyes saw a covered bowl on a small table right next to her nightstand. She picked up the bowl hastily and opened it to be greeted by a steaming pile of mac and cheese. She quickly stuffed it down and placed her plate back down when she was done. She then looked at the pills on top of the little note and the water beside it, maybe they could help me clear up some things she pondered.

She took both the pills and the water and downed them in one go. She did not want to go down stairs before she knew exactly what happened so she settled on her bed and waited for the pills to kick in. When they finally kicked in she was an unresponsive mess sprawled on her large bed, unconscious.

"I don't get why she is still not awake Talya, what did you give her?" Grandma Tutu had her thin lips in a scowl, her wrinkly forehead was scrunched up in both worry and confusion. Sarah has been sleeping since yesterday and it was now noon!! "Dammit Talya, if you don' answer me girl, Jesus will forgive me!" Her tone was aggravated, she was gravely worried. Something in her old bones told her that something was gravely wrong and she was almost certain that Talya had something to do with it!

"I will go and check up on her." In her ironed black skirt and crisp white blouse, she climbed up the stairs. Upon arriving in her daughter's room she rushed to turn her onto her side as she was sprawled uncomfortably with her head pushed into the pillow. Talya tucked her in properly and sat on her bedside in wonder. As she was collecting her thoughts, the note on the nightstand caught her attention. As she read the note, a cold chill seeped into her bones, she shivered slightly and glanced around the room.

Her mother hadn't been up here since last night, something was going on here. As she glanced down , the pills were gone which meant that Sarah had consumed them. She quickly rushed down the stairs and picked up her phone, grandma Tutu firing questions her way. The older Miss Day bit her lower lip as she waited for whoever was on the other end to pick up. "Jonathan, get the car ready and come up the stairs to Sarah's room. Right this minute!"

Her eyes darkened as she glanced at her mother, the old woman was sneering at her already. "Are you going to tell me what's going on, you stubborn child?" Talya's eyes closed slightly and she pinched her nose in anxiety. "Someone is messing with my daughter, mother! Someone is messing with my family, again!"
Grandma Tutu raised her eyebrows slightly and went to make mention of the fact that she said again when Johnathan bursted through the door.

"We are taking Sarah to the hospital, come!"
