girl meets texas setting, but very different outcomes and twists from the actual episode.

Oh, how the tables have turned, Riley thought to herself, as she sat with all of her friends by a blazing campfire. This night was supposed to be one to remember, a night that would keep their spirits alive.

And in some ways, this would be a night to remember- just not how the group thought it would be.

"Why did you say that, Riley?"

Twisting the hem of her skirt, Riley jerked her head up to face a glowering blonde, who's pale face illuminated in the fire. It would've been a bit intimidating to anyone else, but Riley knew better- That was her best friend after all.

"Peaches," she said calmly, "you know I want the best for you, and that's with Lucas. I- I see him as a brother; you know that, don't you?"

Riley stumbled over her words, trying to convince both Maya and herself of her feelings towards Lucas. Despite her true emotions, getting over her first crush and boyfriend wasn't any easier.

"No. This isn't how this was supposed to go. Lucas was never supposed to know that I like him, Riley. He was supposed to be with you- Ranger Rick and Sunshine forever," Maya argued, her eyes darting back and forth from Lucas, who stared at her confused, and Riley, who was unfazed.

Lucas and Farkle sat quiet, unsure of when or what to speak. They both knew something wasn't right with their best friends, but what was it? Why was Riley doing what she was doing?

"We're brother and sister, aren't we, Lucas? That's what we are, and that's all we'll ever be," Riley confirmed to both herself and her friends. She pushed away her doubts, knowing what was for the best.

Maya turned to Lucas and Farkle for help, sending them both looks. She did like Lucas, of course she did, but what about Riley? No way was she actually done with him, the blonde thought.

But maybe she was- or at least, would be soon.

Sighing, Farkle turned to Riley, who sat beside him on a wooden log. He locked his eyes on hers, searching for the cracks in her facade. Farkle had a good way of finding the truth, especially with Riley. Then, he started his interrogation.

"Riley, what are you doing?"

"What do you mean? I'm doing what's best."

"Yeah? Doing what's best is setting aside your actual feelings for Lucas, after he says that he likes you?"

"I'm not lying. This is what I want: I want Maya to be happy, and I want Lucas to be happy. Don't you want me to be happy, Farkle?"

"Of course!" Farkle shouted automatically, earning looks of surprise from each of the friends. "I've always wanted what's best for you, and I've always wanted you happy. I want that more than anything else. More than Maya, more than Lucas, more than me..."

All around the campfire was silence; Lucas, Maya, and Riley sat, staring at Farkle with widened eyes. Had they heard that correctly? Was Farkle actually admitting to favoring Riley over Maya?

First to get out of the shock, Maya spoke first.

"Wait, hold on-" she started, then stood from her log and stepped towards the frustrated and weary boy,
"- Farkle, do you actually like  Riley?"

Maya's bright blue eyes burned into Farkle's, daring him to lie to her. Panicked, he did. He lied, as he had been for years now.

"N-No! Why would I? I just want her happy. Just forget I said anything," Farkle stammered, cursing himself for almost blowing everything up even more than it already had been.
