some point in high-school, senior year. this is a request.

Riley Matthews has been through a rollercoaster of emotion; she boarded a wild ride of feelings ranging from being at an all time high of feeling like she was at the top of the world, to plunging down on a stomach-churning drop, straight into a pit of misery. In fact, that rollercoaster was still going on, but Riley had a good feeling that she was about to enter the calm, yet exciting stage of the ride.

Lucas Friar was her first of a lot of things: first boyfriend, first kiss, first crush, first date— but that didn't mean it would last. After all, not many people could say their puppy love stayed, and that included Riley.

She figured that it was never meant to be; it was never the right time for them. On top of that, Riley's favorite subject in school, science, claims that alike forces repel— and she and Lucas were similar in all too many ways. Although he ended up choosing her at the ski lodge, they ended up breaking up soon after; Riley chose her best friend, Maya's feelings, over his, claiming that Maya deserved him more than she did.

The dreamy brunette watched from afar in absolute support, from dressing Maya for their technical first date, to helping Lucas plan a 2 year anniversary gift. Riley truly felt that it was them who needed to be pushed together, not her and Lucas. After all, she had another on her mind, which she gave a try to.

Charlie Gardner; he was Riley's second one to ever date, though it was short lived and in middle school. His feelings, though, never faded. Charlie grew infatuated on Riley's ever-lasting sunshine mood, and he tried again after she and Lucas broke up. Deciding that he was worth another go, Riley accepted his offer to go on a date, and the pair went out for approximately 3 months— before calling it quits.

Charlie was sweet, Riley knew that, but he was too much of a pushover for her. He was clingy— too clingy, and it didn't go down right with Riley. She never quite returned his feelings, and she felt that she never would. That being said, they broke things off. Riley didn't want a relationship to be one-sided; she felt too bad about it.

Then there was the third. They say third one's a charm, don't they? Well, Riley put her hope in that expression, praying that it would be the one. As the optimist she was, Riley figured that whoever would fill in the spot as her third boyfriend would be as close to perfect as it got— and she wasn't wrong.

"I can't wrap my head around how everything has come to this," a voice with a slight edge sighed, the feminine voice echoing from Riley's closet.

"Best believe that it has, Peaches," Riley responded matter of factly, shrugging at her best friend's disbelief.

The petite blonde emerged from the closet, holding a few hangers of dresses. "Whatever; at least he already knows that if he hurts you, it'll be the worst decision of his life."

"He wouldn't, and you know that."

Maya thought for a second, as she tossed the clothes onto Riley's bed. "I guess you're right. He cares too much."

"Mhm," the brunette agreed, examining the outfits Maya chose for her.

"Farkle Minkus is going to be blown away when he sees you, Riles."

After Riley slipped into a pale blue dress with her favorite pair of ankle boots, she twirled around her room, awaiting her date, Farkle Minkus.
