Adina's POV

I have been flying for a good hour or so, with Luca directing me on where I should go. I must say I'm super impressed with his amount of knowledge on geography matters. I now see why he was a scout for the Westerner army.

I smile when I think back to a few moments after our take off. Luca was amazed at the view. I wish I could have seen his expression though, all I heard was his gasp of amazement.

I fly over the thick Western forest. It looks more dense and scary than the Eastern one. No wonder Luca didn't seem to mind our forest. When the trees start to get her less and the desert comes into view Luca tugs on the strap to let me know that we should land.

I land at the edge of the forest, still taking cover in the trees. This way his Western army will not see me. I loosen the straps and Luca shakes his legs. I let out a laugh, remembering my first time flying. Once you land you can't really feel your legs.

"You see, that wasn't so bad," I say with a huge smile on my face as Luca turns to face me.

"Yeah, it was pretty amazing," he says with a glint in his eyes and adds, "Except for liftoff."

We both let out small laughs. My heart sinks in my chest but I smile brightly at him. I should leave him. It's what he wants, what he needs. I mean all I do is bring him trouble and yet I don't want to leave. Guess you can't always have your way.

"Well Luca, it was a pleasure meeting you, even under the circumstances," I say and stick out my hand to shake his. His smile vanishes as he looks down at my hand. He frowns then goes to take my hand.

Before we can shake hands, an army of people surrounds us. Westerners. I look directly at Luca and he looks worried and shocked. Okay great so it wasn't me being naive and falling in some trap.

"Luca my boy, what do we have here?," a suspicious looking man asks, as he climbs down from his horse. He is the only one with a horse and his uniform has multiple badges on it, which means he is some sort of leader.

"Oh Chief, I thought the meeting point was in the desert?," Luca asks, clearly not knowing why they were in the forest.

"It was. But we needed to scatter from the East. Took us longer than we would have wanted. We were missing a great scout. Thought he was killed. So meet up time was delayed. We were making our way to the desert when we heard chatting and here you are, with a pretty girl. Who is she? And why are you changing the subject? You holding out on me boy?," the man asks, all the while circling Luca, his dagger is hand. He plays with it between his fingers.

Luca looks me into the eyes. I can see an apology cross them.

"I'm not holding out on you Sir. This is uhm..," he stops and doesn't know what to say. He seems anxious or frightened. We faced worse creatures than this obvious egotistical man.

"Adina from House Zircon. Flyer and Protector. From the East. You know the same East you fled from after your loss," I say sticking out my hand for him to shake. His eyes widen in bewilderment. He walks up to me. He is in my face. Luca shakes his head no, but I look away from him and into the chief's eyes.

"Well, Chief Hansel James. Right hand to Leader of Westerners, Major Ryan Dudley," he says with amusement in his eyes. He is standing way too close. He leans his head even closer to my face and asks, "So what is a brave and mighty fine Flyer doing in the West?"

I quickly shoot a gaze at Luca and reply, "Well your soldier over there," I motion towards Luca and continue, "Won me fair and square in a fight. He could have killed me instead he spared me, took me prisoner.  Unfortunately the fight landed us in Noplace. Both destined to die, I suggested we fly us out of there. That way my debt of owing a him a life would be paid. I now see that it was a setup and a life for a life doesn't include letting a prisoner go." I show all the confidence I can muster, not once wavering.

He lets out a hefty laugh, throwing his head back before saying, "Just like a true Westerner. Well done Luca," he says briefly looking at Luca who wears a pained expression.

"And you little naive Flyer. I heard about the loyalty that runs in the veins of Flyers. I mean we had Shapeshifters, Healers, Wielders and even the Invisible guys that betrayed the East and helped us wage war. But not Flyers. You couldn't turn their loyal asses against the Royals. Your loyalty is impeccable, I admit, but it's wrongly placed. But perhaps that will change once I get you seated in front of Major Ryan. Maybe we will be able to guide you onto the right path. Maybe we will get Flyers onto our course. Then we can storm the East again and this time, perhaps we will win. Instead of being forced to run away with our tails between our legs because the Easterner Royal Air Force and Bodyguards with the help of the loyal shapeshifters in the ground are too impenetrable," he says, the last part filled with rage and disgust.

He has been circling me for his entire speech. He stops behind me and says, "Cuff her."

I mentally moan as I feel the metal being placed on my raw wrists. I winch when the coldness of the metal travels through my body like shocks. I look at Luca once again and this time his eyes are shut tightly, as if he didn't want to see what was happening. I know what he is thinking. I made a stupid decision again.

I feel one of the army members push me from behind and mumble 'Move'. I start walking.

Hansel lets out a loud, evil laugh and says, "Welcome to the West."
